Can we just take a moment to appreciate how natural the dialogue is in this chapter? Because I'm genuinely impressed. Shuo Xing's voice is distinct and immediately recognizable. "Sub-father! This fish soup is so good, not only fragrant but also has a slight sweetness!" That kid is ALL energy. He's greedy, he's enthusiastic, he's the kind of child who licks his lips and then immediately tries to sneak off to make more soup because he can't wait. His dialogue is short, punchy, full of exclamations. You can HEAR him. Xin Yu is the opposite — calmer, more measured, but with that dry humor underneath. His complaint about Cang Feng digging up too much ginger: "I originally said a few pieces of ginger could make a pot of water, but he dug up so much, really had nothing better to do." That's not just exposition about ginger. That's a whole marriage dynamic in one sentence. I love it. Lan Xiu? Three lines. "Morning, not yet." "It's okay." "Got it." Minimal to the point of almost nothing, and yet the author makes him feel like a real person. The sparseness of his dialogue contrasts perfectly with his physical presence. When he speaks, it matters because he doesn't waste words. Yu Yan's dialogue is warm and practical — he's always explaining, teaching, offering. "You guys try it too." "I'm glad you like it." "Did you learn how to make it this time?" He's a nurturer in dialogue form. And the tribe members' voices during the gathering? They blur together in that wonderful way real groups of people do — overlapping, excited, competitive about who has more hand-hand root stored. It feels like eavesdropping on actual humans (or beastmen) rather than reading scripted dialogue. The author's narrative voice is also doing heavy lifting here. It's observant without being pretentious, humorous without being forced. Lines like "His greedy look made Yu Yan and the other two adults laugh heartily. The handsome young boy blushed bright red and turned his back in a huff." That's comedy written with affection, not mockery.
Loved the bonus chapter it was amazing
I love this book so much already. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I hope there will be book 3
loving the book
I do not like the way this book just abruptly stops. I need to know what happens not just assume what happened
