I'm not impressed! I'm getting bored!
this book is so good!!! loved it from beginning to end !!
Let me just say this upfront: this chapter sequence moves like a freight train and I was along for the ride. We go from blind date → mutual interest → marriage application → commander's approval → sprint to register, all within what feels like a single afternoon. That's not just fast pacing—that's confident pacing. The author doesn't waste a single scene on filler. What's interesting is how the author uses external reactions to amplify the internal emotional beats. Chen Xiong spotting Lu Changzheng with Ji Wanning and then failing to convince his comrades is a brilliant structural choice. It does three things at once: it reinforces how shocking Lu Changzheng's transformation is, it gives us a comedic breather after the intense blind date scene, and it builds anticipation for when the wider military community will find out. The soldiers betting he'll stay a bachelor his whole life? Perfect dramatic irony because we already know the truth. The scene transitions are also smooth. We move from the auditorium corridor → Chen Xi reunion → Lu Changzheng to the commander's office → back to the registration office without any jarring jumps. Each scene ends on a note that pulls you forward: Lu Changzheng feeling like he needs a hospital checkup (humor), Chen Xiong vowing to prove his story (anticipation), Division Commander Zhou signing the application (relief), and finally Lu Changzheng sprinting toward Ji Wanning in the sunlight (climax). One thing I'd flag: the Chen Xi exposition dump about Lu Changzheng's reputation does slow things down slightly. We get a full paragraph of 'he's the living King of Hell, girls cry, he probably doesn't like women.' It's useful context, but it comes right after we've already seen Lu Changzheng being soft and sentimental. The author could have woven this information more organically. That said, it serves a purpose—Ji Wanning's confusion ('could you have mistaken him for someone else?') makes the reader question too, which adds a nice layer of doubt before the emotional payoff. Overall, the pacing is tight. No drag, no rushed emotional beats that feel unearned. The author trusts the reader to keep up, and that trust is rewarded.
