The stakes in this chapter are deceptively low on the surface but absolutely massive underneath, and that's what makes it so gripping. On the surface: a family dinner. Nothing dramatic, right? But the author has layered so many conflicts that every conversation feels like walking on eggshells. The biggest conflict is Su Sanxian's amnesia versus her family's memories. She doesn't remember Lin Shen. She doesn't remember her parents the way they remember her. Every warm moment is shadowed by the fact that she's a stranger in her own life. When Father Su starts complaining about the past, it's not just awkward family drama — it's a man who watched his daughter suffer for four years and blames the man sitting at his table. That's real stakes. The Three Cubs' conflict is even more urgent. They know what's coming — they know their mom will eventually remember everything, including the pain, including the darkness. Their desperate attempt to skip school and go to Grandma and Grandpa's house isn't childish whim, it's a child's instinctive understanding that they need to strengthen every bond they have with their mother before she changes again. When Dazai cries over her fingers, it's not just cuteness — it's a kid who's terrified of losing her. Lin Shen's internal conflict is the quietest but probably the deepest. This book is sooo different to what i've come to expect from this author, but it has me intrigued. I love that she always keeps me guessing and gives me a new experience. So far i'm enjoying this and look forward to more chapters
