THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORIES
Let me be real with you—the pacing in these chapters is mostly *chef's kiss*. The author knows exactly when to speed up and when to let a scene breathe. Take the dinner confrontation between An Ruoyan and Zhou Shuchen. It starts slow with Shi Meijiao being manipulative, then Zhou Shuchen makes his shameless request, and An Ruoyan just DESTROYS him in three lines. The tension builds naturally, peaks at her "Where's your face?" line, and then resolves with everyone backing her up. That's textbook pacing done right. But I gotta be honest—there's a moment in the middle of Chapter 20 where the pacing stumbles a bit. An Ruoyan finishes cooking, everyone eats, Deng Xiuli washes dishes, they go up to the kang to chat... and then Shi Meijiao and Zhou Shuchen make noise outside. It's fine, but it's a little transitional. Like, I get that it's showing their annoying behavior, but I was ready to skip ahead. Not a big deal though. What really keeps me turning pages is how the author uses cliffhangers and scene transitions. Chapter 19 ends with Zhou Shuchen being publicly humiliated and storming off. Chapter 20 starts with him seeing Shi Meijiao crying and immediately blaming An Ruoyan. That's a great transition—it keeps the conflict rolling without a pause. And then Chapter 21 opens with the next morning, breakfast, and immediately drops us back into the field conflict with Shi Meijiao. No breathing room, just momentum. The Li Laidi scene at the end of Chapter 21 is a great mini-cliffhanger. Gu Yizhi was pretending to be injured to avoid matchmaking, but Li Laidi almost walked in on him. The chapter cuts off right as things are getting complicated. I NEED to know what happens next. Overall? The author controls the rhythm really well. Action scenes move fast, domestic scenes have room to breathe, and the transitions between them feel natural rather than forced.
I feel like the focus of the story has changed from the rejection to the letters. Please move forward and return to the original storyline
My favorite read in a long time. Believable characters, good world building, different enough of a story that the tropes aren't trite. Many thanks to the MiriGoogag for the adventure thus far.
