This exceptional novel, I'll refrain from divulging more; it combines charm, lightheartedness, dramatic moments, and romantic elements. The characters are expertly crafted, each with depth and nuance. The author skillfully weaves the plot, creating an engaging narrative. True, the main character displays a slightly yandere trait, which can be attributed to his past experiences. However, it's worth reading the original version – though I did Machine Translate it, I wouldn't advise following suit, as the translation might lose some subtleties. The translator, on the other hand, has done a commendable job.
Let's begin with the romantic aspect. ? I simply don't understand it. The male lead plays no significant role in the first part of the story. When the female lead (FL) starts thinking about him later, it's like he suddenly appears from nowhere. If the translator hadn't mentioned him, I'd assume he was just a random character giving flowers. We never witness the development of their love; instead, the focus is on how side characters' relationships crumble, with the author neglecting to build a connection between the main characters.
Honestly, the narrative jumps abruptly from barely acknowledging the male lead to them suddenly missing each other and crying as if their world has ended. The book aims to be tragic in each arc, but the lackluster romance makes it hard to empathize with the FL's death, even when it happens in front of the male lead (ML).
The arcs feel unnecessarily lengthy due to the ML and FL being together, yet they instantly recognize each other without any real interaction or development. It's not a gradual romance; it's more like skipping from one extreme to another. Given the fast-paced transmigration plot, it's unrealistic for them to instantly connect at that level.
The FL and ML's relationship lacks chemistry, especially since the ML is so unnoticeable that he's practically invisible during the plot. Side characters and their love stories shine in comparison.
Regarding world-building, it's disappointing. Almost every arc except a few involves rape, which becomes repetitive and raises questions about the author's choice of plot devices. It's disorienting to empathize with the villains when they're victims of rape, as their intentions are solely to harm the original character.
The rape scenes aren't graphic, but they happen often for various reasons, such as revenge or character humiliation. In contrast, the ML and FL hardly have any physical intimacy, with only two kisses in the entire story so far, which is absurd.
The revenge rape storyline is excessive, even if it's portrayed as a retaliation. The author continues to explore this theme without addressing its ethical implications.
Arcs are unnecessarily long, focusing on side characters' activities while the ML and FL remain virtually silent and disconnected. Their relationship lacks depth, with no tension, pursuit, or flirtation – they simply end up together with no explanation.
In summary, the book is not recommended for those seeking a strong romance or sensitive themes. However, if you can overlook the rape content, it might offer a decent read for passing the time or if you enjoy the side characters' world and storylines. Be aware that rape is prevalent in the revenge plots and many villainous schemes.
