Can we just take a moment to appreciate how well-written Xiao Ling Bao's dialogue is? This child has MORE personality in her pinky than most adult characters have in their entire bodies. Her line "Still crying? I'll spank your little bottom if you keep crying!" to a screaming baby while leaning lazily on her uncle's shoulder is the kind of casual authority that makes you want to kneel. And "What's this smell..." followed by a sneeze? Perfect. The way she calls Ling Wenyang "Uncle Bian Que" (that ancient Chinese physician reference!) shows she has this old-soul wisdom wrapped in toddler speech. Meanwhile, Ling Yixi's dialogue is all stammering and panic—"This is... this is... could you help identify it?" and the internal monologue about how he can't explain that a grown man was pushed into water by a three-year-old. The contrast between his flustered speech and Xiao Ling Bao's razor-sharp bluntness is comedy gold. The Hong family's dialogue is equally well-done—their desperate politeness, the way they trip over themselves trying to beg for help after being rude earlier. "We're not saying the young miss is useless... No, no..." This is how real people speak when they're caught between pride and desperation. The author gives every character a distinct voice.
