The plot doesn't just rely on a cute meet-cute; it builds this slow-burn curiosity that makes you actually care when he calls Cizhen at night. And that call scene? Chef's kiss. He tries to play it cool asking if she got scammed, and Cizhen immediately sees right through him. The author doesn't over-explain his feelings — he just sits there staring at his drink thinking about going back to Kangding earlier. That's it. That's the whole plot engine right there. Meanwhile, Lin Mo's journey from Chengdu to Litang runs parallel to this, and I love how the travel narrative gives the story physical momentum. She's literally moving toward something — not just geographically but emotionally. The question is whether Danzeng showing up in Kangding creates the kind of tension that sustains a full novel or if it's just a pretty setup. I'm cautiously optimistic though.
