Let me be absolutely clear: Yan Changfeng has the sharpest tongue in all of fiction and I am here for it. From her very first lines, her voice is distinct, immediate, and unforgettable. When she greets her father, it's all warmth and physical affection. When she addresses the Zhang siblings? "Well, what brings you two here? Did you catch the scent of our crabs?" That is not a greeting. That is a verbal slap delivered with a smile. The author's dialogue writing excels at subtext. Almost nobody says what they actually mean. Yan Changfeng tells the Zhang siblings their distinguished guests are "precious and have many particularities" and "might not be willing to share a table with us for a meal"—which is her way of saying your social climbing is transparent and unwanted. Zhang Ruyan responds with feigned innocence: "Could you introduce them? You know my brother is pursuing an official career—it's always good to meet more influential people." The reader sees right through it. Everyone in the scene sees right through it. But nobody calls it out directly. The tension lives entirely in what is unsaid. Pei Xiu's dialogue is a masterclass in controlled performance. Every line he speaks is interrupted by coughing—"My apologies… cough cough… a c-cold… please excuse me… cough cough cough…"—and yet each cough is calculated. The text explicitly notes that Prince Shu understands the hint immediately: "That's enough. A few coughs would have sufficed." Pei Xiu is using his illness as a social weapon, and the dialogue makes this absurd manipulation feel completely natural. The author's voice throughout is wry, observant, and delightfully unsentimental. It's the kind of narrative tone that makes you laugh out loud while also feeling genuinely invested in what happens next.

I really am enjoying this series.
It was like a common story I've read. I love the story but I kinda hate it, it's getting boring as I continue reading. The twist I've waiting to happen is exactly never happen,I mean it cuts my thrill.
