What is a white novel?
I wanted to enjoy this. It’s not terrible, but it’s quite mediocre. I’m puzzled by the numerous high ratings.
The Good:
You can root for the main character (MC), who is theoretically the underdog. Adversities are inflicted upon her by others, and the outcomes are mixed, but that’s essentially the story.
The Bad:
Even the title belittles the MC—take that as a foreshadowing of the tone for at least the first 100 chapters. She’s described as a 'genius' and a 'skilled assassin.' Occasionally, she demonstrates some of these supposed skills. However, most of the time, she is victimized, and often it’s due to her own incompetence. To be honest, she comes across as a rather naive maiden who occasionally acts more mature.
Let’s get straight to it—this is one of those novels where the characters are mere props for the situations and plotting. So many things happen that defy her supposed skills and knowledge, yet she frequently lacks the common sense and professional habits/mentality to stand up for herself (because the title and plot dictate that she’s destined to be with the King of Hell, who is a short-tempered, abusive, and creepy stalker).
Oh, yeah—that’s another point—the 'King of Hell' is a jerk. When the MC has been kicked around by life, what she really needs is to be stalked and bullied by a one-sided love interest. I suppose it’s okay because he’s handsome, powerful, and rich—and, of course, she (the powerful mind-control master assassin) puts up with it because of the plot.
The Different:
Hmm… nothing? I’d say this is predictable, except it isn’t—since the MC seems to forget her own skills half the time, and she’s pretty much controlled by the other MC and random events.
This is very much a novel that tells you things that are supposed to be 'the way things are,' but doesn’t show you half as much. I think some of the disparity between those who like it and those who don’t lies in seeing past the facade.
Spoilers:
She kills a room full of people right off the bat, but the second time around, she looks stupid until she’s knocked out by the save spell. Shortly after, she pretty much disassembles it and understands its inner workings. Here are a few things you might not have considered:
1. If she’s so familiar with it, why didn’t she check if she was 'save-ified' as soon as she woke up in an obvious 'you are now a save' situation?
2. Since the way she enslaves people (without pulling out their souls) is so superior, and she was definitely enslaved for some time, does that mean her soul was pulled out since the 'inferior' method was seemingly used on her? (Obviously it didn’t affect her, but this is unexplained 'plot armor' or something)
The King of Hell 'loves' her at first sight but wouldn’t even bid on her and left her to suffer at the hands of the actual purchaser—but he assigned someone to watch what happened, though... (true love)
She keeps getting tailed. How did she survive as an assassin before? Oh, wait, she didn’t...
The author talks about meridians and how hers have no power, yet she does things that should require some sort of power (sensing/moving energy to start)—but doesn’t explain it. I’m not saying I know the author’s world—just that they should explain it or not use terms that cause confusion.
She’s super oblivious. From dying in the first place because she had no clue people had a problem with her, to later when she heals someone from an impossible injury and decides to keep a disguise that had no advantage.
Speaking of which—she can do disguises! She’s an 'expert' who doesn’t think to cover her apparently unique eye color—how 'expert' is that?
She needs to know things. Apparently, talking to people or reading books isn’t even worth trying. Even (snicker) while disguised... Better deal with the 'King of Hell' for info! Must be under the King of Hell’s thumb!
We won’t even get into her lack of interest in her 'own' family situation, but her desire to stay in it despite the fact it’ll only cause her random, unexpected trouble.
All that said, I kind of like it anyway and want to know where it will go, but the 'King' and his antics, along with her weakness to them, completely ruin it for me.
Explaining the intense dislike for this novel involves spoilers, but for those who haven't reached the later parts, it's a typical power fantasy where the main character is surrounded by mediocre characters. The story is mostly enjoyable on autopilot, but the ending is disappointing due to an event that will be explained.

Initially, her inclusion is refreshing, as she's a colleague of the protagonist's sister, a down-to-earth nurse compared to the idealized women in wuxia novels. It's hinted early on that she has feelings for him, but he hesitates. However, her sincerity eventually wins him over, and they start dating. There's a minor love triangle, which is common in such stories. The problem lies in discovering that her hospital director manipulates her and other nurses into drug addiction for his own desires. When he tries to pursue her, she rejects him, believing she's unworthy due to his newfound status as a CEO. Devastated, she takes her own life after another encounter with the director. The main character uses her death as motivation for revenge.
While the story might have seemed promising in isolation, considering the entire novel and the wuxia genre, the reasoning behind her death becomes disturbing. The MC repeatedly saves loved ones from danger, a recurring theme in such narratives. Initially, her death left a sour taste, but upon reflection, it seems she was killed solely because she no longer met the MC's ideal standards.
In this novel, virginity is highly valued, and all love interests must remain untainted. This often leads to complex female characters who initially dislike men, who are "conquered" by the hero. Women are portrayed as objects rather than individuals with agency. This mindset is problematic, and in this particular case, it worsens. If the girl survived, the MC would have had to stay with her, but instead, she's written off for a quick plot twist. The genre often caters to wish fulfillment, but the suggestion of sexual exploitation crosses a line for me.
To clarify, I don't believe the author holds offensive views; it's about effective storytelling. Unfortunately, this novel fails to convey its themes well, earning a one-star rating from my perspective.
"It's decent, but not extraordinary. I appreciate it, but it doesn't elicit that overwhelming love. The main character is likable, embodying a heroic spirit, determined to save others despite challenges. It's hard not to like him, even if one tries. The supporting characters are solid, with some gaps, but the MC's father stands out as particularly intriguing.
The storytelling is well-crafted, avoiding info-dumps and unnecessary padding. It's evident that the author has planned each arc thoughtfully. Overall, it's a commendable read, featuring a diligent MC, engaging plot, and charming secondary characters.
However, there's one aspect that holds it back from a perfect score - the excessive reliance on time travel to fix problems. This regressive power takes away from the immersion, making emotional connections feel hollow. Moments like Mir's conversation with the MC before her passing, Hector's faith in Luan, Seren's sacrifice, and Luan's father's reaction after being healed – all these impactful scenes lose their significance when time travel conveniently solves everything.
It's frustrating because it feels like the story is afraid of its consequences, and only the MC and the reader remember the true weight of those moments. I'm left feeling disappointed and disengaged."
In summary, the novel possesses many positive elements but falls short due to its heavy-handed use of time travel as a deus ex machina solution.
This novel is incredibly exceptional. I believe it would make an outstanding anime adaptation as well. The narrative is unconventional, structured around thematic chapters, and the interconnected stories create a compelling whole. While non-linear plots can sometimes be executed poorly, this book executes it flawlessly, avoiding any unnecessary confusion.
The protagonist is a fascinating character. He exudes a cool and serious demeanor without coming across as pretentious. What sets him apart is his mischievous side, playfully teasing friends and having an unusual fascination with web novels. He goes as far as trying (or pressuring) writers to keep producing content to satisfy his insatiable appetite. He even manipulates a group of fairy characters, turning them into unwitting servants, humorously quoting "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal" from Animal Farm. His subtle wit is endearing.
I give this novel a full 5 out of 5 for its plot, character development, and unique storytelling approach. It might not revolve heavily around action or the gritty details of a Hunter/Gate universe, but that doesn't mean it's not worth a read for those not usually drawn to this genre. Give it a chance, and you might be pleasantly surprised.
It may be because I have read the "how to survive the game as barbarian " novel which is one of my top ten novel ...but it just feels like sh*t compared to that novel..you should give that a try if you like adventure ,fentasy and game element.it recently got adapted to a manhwa check that out

This is such an underrated gem, so sad it doesn't receive the worth it deserves.It is a short novel but very well written; from world building, character growth, plot twists and subjective views from characters everything comes together to make this novel whole.Would be appreciated if you could edit all the errors in translating but thank you very much for bringing the whole novel, it was a great ride. ^^
