Then Attendant Zhang tries to one-up everyone by presenting her OWN sachet to Yinzhen, and Lady Song follows suit. The sachet becomes this whole status competition that reveals everyone's positions without a single direct confrontation. And then Yinzhen notices Li Wanran didn't make him one. His irritation about it drives the entire second half of the chapter. He leaves the banquet early specifically to confront her about it in private. That's a plot movement triggered by a SACHET. I love it. The drinking competition subplot with the princes is also well-constructed — it starts as background noise (Third Prince teasing, Crown Prince and First Prince competing) and gradually escalates until someone suggests pulling Yinzhen into it. The Emperor sending someone to break it up is a nice touch — shows the political stakes even in casual scenes. The princes aren't just drinking; they're maneuvering. What I appreciate most is how the plot doesn't force anything. Li Wanran's suspicion of Attendant Zhang watching her feels natural, not manufactured. She notices, she tests, she deflects — and the reader gets to watch her intelligence in real time. The scene where Zhang points at Yi's sachet to cover her panic? That's plot writing that trusts the reader to connect the dots. The chapter ends on a cliffhanger of sorts — Yinzhen covering Li Wanran's mouth before she can swear her oath. What happens next? The tension between them is palpable. I need to know if he believes her or if this is going to blow up into something bigger.
