"The day before yesterday it was a giant pine cone; yesterday it was a pretty pebble; and today, it was delicious bird eggs." I need a moment. This is the most devastatingly sweet thing I have ever read and I am not okay. Lu Yan is up in a tree like some kind of woodland creature, plucking bird eggs from a sparrow's nest, thinking about how Xia Miao will kiss him and "add to his score." A SCORE. He's keeping score of how much she likes him and he's actively trying to increase it with foraged gifts. The contrast between who he is and what he does for her is everything. This is a boy who finds adult films disgusting and prefers watching blood splatter — and yet here he is, tiptoeing around with bird eggs like a tiny, devoted badger. And then there's the kiss scene. They've shared far more intimate kisses before, right? But THIS clumsy, elementary-schooler pecking style makes both their hearts hammer like thunder. Because it's different this time. This time he's asking. This time he's vulnerable. This time he's not just taking — he's requesting permission, and that changes everything. The sweetness doesn't stop there though. Walking back, she's feeding him half her pineapple roll — overwhelmingly sweet, by the way — and tucking her hand into his hoodie pocket. He whispers into her palm: "I'll make sure Miaomiao likes me a whole lot more." She calls him out for starving himself and he just... stares blankly because he's never had someone care that much. And her excuse for caring? "Don't get the wrong idea... I still only like you a tiny bit!" The worst liar in fiction history and we love her for it. I'm literally shaking. This CP is so good it hurts.
