The sudden stings and small push surprised Jack at first as he coughed out the minced Ant food in his mouth and for a split second his sense of hunger was overwritten by danger.
"You guys can't do anything right." she barked.
"Can you–?"
She looked like a drowned kitten asking for forgiveness. For a while, it was quiet as they both contemplate each other before the taller of the two smiles.
He would protect who he damn well wanted to protect!
The bed was fairly simple, bed sheets tucked beneath blankets and pillows stuffed with soft feathers.
I wonder if it's just the energy that radiates...
Okay so let me just say this opening is a masterclass in rebirth fiction done right. Most novels in this genre just dump the protagonist back in time and have them gawk at everything, but Shi Ruyi? She wakes up, processes it, and within the first chapter she's already recalibrating every single decision. The plot structure here is tight—Chapter 1 establishes the past life death (betrayal by her sister and husband), the rebirth moment, and then immediately pivots to the first test: Su Linjing getting arrested. In her previous life, she rushed out, scolded her maid, forced an apology, and ruined her health. This time? She takes fifteen minutes, composes herself, and walks in like nothing phases her. That's not just a plot beat, that's a statement. The author is showing us through action, not exposition, that this protagonist is fundamentally different now. And the Su Linjing scene? Brilliant. He's tied up, expecting the old Shi Ruyi to beg and apologize, and instead she calmly orders thirty lashes. The narrative arc from victim to someone who controls the room is established in under two chapters. I also love how the author plants the mystery of her 'master' through that unsigned letter—there's a whole subplot brewing there that I'm dying to see develop. The pacing is deliberate but never slow. Every scene advances either character or plot. No filler.
Wang Li Jun, who had been quiet this whole time, was about to leave with the doctors and nurses, since he only stayed to hear that Lian was going to be alright. He honestly didn't want to stay in the same room as the entire Zheng family and Mei Lin and Huo Cheng must be freaking out right now since he stayed back at the school. But before he could go, a soft voice called out, "Wang...Li Jun?"
- ¡Wau!, y pensar que evolucionaria a un gran orco en mitad del combate.
"Ah! My bad!" Code 030 let out a surprised yelled as cracks began to form on the energy barrier.
Baldroy: Huh? The oven?
