Ning Shu, a woman from a prominent capital family, discovers she is pregnant with her husband Fu Yanshen's child. Her joy is short-lived when Fu Yanshen informs her that her childhood friend and secret love, Fang Chen, has died in a peacekeeping mission. Fang Chen’s widow, Meng Xuan, is also three months pregnant with Fang Chen’s posthumous child. Fu Yanshen, who has long harbored unrequited love for Meng Xuan, announces his decision to bring her into their marital home to live with them. He orders Ning Shu, despite her own pregnancy, to personally care for Meng Xuan, framing it as a duty Ning Shu owes Meng Xuan due to past misunderstandings involving Fu Yanshen.
