Yan Zigui is the eldest daughter of General Yan Anbang and his wife, Jiang Cainü. Her relationship with her father, Yan Ci, remains strained but evolves as he recognizes her intelligence and resilience. Meanwhile, external alliances are formed when she reunites with her childhood friend, Lin Yuan, the daughter of her grandfather’s former teacher. The Grand Princess takes an interest in Yan Zigui, suggesting she enter the palace as a female official, a prospect that Yan Zigui’s father initially rejects due to the dangers of court life. However, her teacher, Minister Lin, insists that this path will provide her with the status and protection she needs in a society that currently marginalizes her. The narrative sets the stage for Yan Zigui to navigate the complexities of the capital’s high society, leveraging her unique background and newfound alliances to secure her position within the Yan family and beyond.
