Wearing the Role of a Supporting Female Character in the Era, I Got Entangled with a Yandere Boss

Lin Xiyue, a twenty-something woman from the future, transmigrates into the body of a thirteen-year-old girl named Lin Xiyue in 1980s China. Her original host had suffered a tragic life: her father died after falling into a rice paddy while drunk, and her grandmother blamed her mother, Bai Xiaomei, for the death, driving them out of the family home. Bai Xiaomei, a gentle but weak-willed woman, had previously taken her brother's place in a rural assignment to the countryside. After her husband died and she was mistreated by her in-laws for bearing only a daughter, she returned to the city with her young daughter, hoping to reunite with her parents. However, her father, Bai Yongjun, and mother, Wang Xiulan, refused to take them in, claiming there was no room and harboring resentment over past family disputes. The couple had likely intercepted Bai Xiaomei's letters, leading to a misunderstanding that she had abandoned the family.

With nowhere to go, Lin Xiyue takes matters into her own hands. She stages a dramatic scene in the courtyard, kneeling and wailing to attract neighbors' attention, forcing her grandparents to intervene. A neighbor, He Jianguo, and his son, He Mingchu, witness the commotion. He Mingchu, who has also transmigrated and recognizes the era and the family dynamics from a novel he once read, proposes a solution: his father should marry Bai Xiaomei, allowing the mother and daughter to live in their home. He facilitates her education, enrolling her in senior year of high school despite her young age, and tutors her rigorously to help her catch up to his academic level.

As Lin Xiyue adapts to her new life, she faces various challenges. Her uncle, Bai Jiaxing, attempts to harass them, claiming the marriage is illegitimate because the certificate has not yet been issued. He Mingchu produces the certificate, having obtained it beforehand, effectively shutting down the interference. Meanwhile, the original female lead, Jin Yao, a beautiful and wealthy classmate, transfers into their school and develops an interest in He Mingchu. She attempts to sit next to Lin Xiyue and later confesses her feelings to He Mingchu, who rejects her bluntly. Lin Xiyue, aware of the plot, tries to stay out of the way but finds herself increasingly entangled in He Mingchu's attention. He buys her clothes, makes her skincare products, and insists she study hard, treating her with a mix of dominance and care that confuses her.

Bai Xiaomei struggles to find stable employment, facing exploitation and dismissal from various jobs. She feels inadequate and worries about being a burden to the He family. Lin Xiyue comforts her, emphasizing the value of her contributions to the household. The story follows the family's efforts to establish themselves in this new era, with Lin Xiyue focusing on her studies and He Mingchu guiding her path. The narrative highlights the complexities of family dynamics, the challenges of the post-Cultural Revolution period, and the evolving relationship between Lin Xiyue and He Mingchu, who seems to have his own hidden agenda for keeping her close.
