Xu Qiao is the spoiled, domineering heiress of the Xu family and the campus belle of Luosi Xueyuan, known for her lawless temper and disdain for commoners. Her life is upended when she discovers she is a character in a novel, destined to be killed by the male lead, Pei Jinchuan, a genius from the slums who will eventually destroy her family. Simultaneously, she gains the ability to hear the inner thoughts of her cousin Xu Rou and a mysterious system called Xitong, which reveals that Xu Rou is a transmigrator tasked with winning over Pei Jinchuan to alter her fate.
The story begins with Pei Jinchuan accidentally bumping into Xu Qiao and staining her expensive dress. While the system instructs Xu Rou to save Pei Jinchuan to gain his favor, Xu Qiao, aware of his true identity as the Qiyun Zhi Zi who will kill her, chooses to torment him instead. She kicks him, steps on his wounds, and humiliates him in front of their classmates. This deviation from the original plot confuses both Xu Rou and the system, which insists that Xu Qiao is merely a brainless villainess.
As the narrative progresses, Xu Qiao learns that there are multiple Qiyun Zhi Zi in this world, including Song Zhiyu, a reclusive biology genius and student council president. Determined to survive, she decides to investigate these figures and alter her tragic fate. She moves into a room next to Xu Rou’s to eavesdrop on their conversations with the system, discovering that key plot points remain unchanged despite her interventions, but the outcomes can be manipulated.
Xu Qiao’s actions attract the attention of Jiang Wangye, a wealthy young master who has a history with her. When a photo of Xu Qiao and Pei Jinchuan appears on the school forum, Jiang Wangye becomes enraged, suspecting she is involved with the slum dweller. He orders investigations, while Song Zhiyu, intrigued by Jiang’s obsession, agrees to help only to delete the post. However, Song Zhiyu later encounters Xu Qiao accidentally, leading to a tense interaction where she demands compensation for an injury, adding another layer to her complex relationships with the novel’s key figures.
Throughout the story, Xu Qiao navigates a dangerous game between the transmigrator cousin, the system’s predictions, and the hostile male leads. She maintains a facade of her original spoiled self while secretly plotting to undermine Pei Jinchuan’s rise and protect her family from the fate foretold by the system. The narrative explores themes of destiny, free will, and the power dynamics between the wealthy elite and the rising genius from the slums, as Xu Qiao struggles to rewrite her role in the novel.
