Qu Qing serves as the young and formidable Pavilion Master of Shumiao Pavilion, an elusive intelligence organization that remains aloof from both the jianghu and the imperial court. Born into the wealthy Qu family of Great Xia as one of twin daughters, she was taken in by her master at a young age due to her exceptional martial talent, leaving her younger sister Qu Yi behind. While Qu Qing rules the shadows with an iron fist, Qu Yi remains in the family estate, known for her unconventional interest in military formations rather than traditional feminine arts. The story opens with Qu Qing orchestrating the assassination of Prince Zhen, a key obstacle to the Crown Prince’s ascension. During the encounter, she reveals her lethal prowess and cold demeanor, executing the prince despite his desperate attempts to bargain. Her subordinate, Ling Su, had infiltrated the prince’s household as a concubine to facilitate the kill, a risky move that angers Qu Qing but ultimately succeeds in framing the Crown Prince for the murder.
