Hu Jiaojiao wakes from a nightmare in which she is torn apart by a black dragon, only to realize she has transmigrated into the body of a cannon fodder character in a beast world novel. The original Hu Jiaojiao was a vicious, spoiled female who abused her five cubs, despised her mate, the powerful dragon beastman Long Mo, and obsessively pursued the male lead, Ying Yuan. In the novel, this cruelty drives the cubs to become evil villains who eventually torture their mother to death. Now inhabiting the body at the moment the original character is caught trying to drug Ying Yuan with an aphrodisiac fruit, Hu Jiaojiao faces immediate hostility from the tribe. She recognizes that her only chance for survival is to alter her fate by winning over the cubs and the villain before Long Mo returns.
She rushes to her dilapidated home, a remote and foul-smelling shack where the five malnourished cubs are being bullied by older children. Instead of beating them as the original owner would have, Hu Jiaojiao drives the bullies away with mud and shows genuine concern for their injuries. The cubs, conditioned by years of abuse, are terrified and suspicious, expecting violence. Hu Jiaojiao discovers she possesses a spatial storage filled with endless food and supplies, a cheat that allows her to cook a meal of braised pork and rice. She swears to the Beast God that she will never harm them again, a promise that slowly begins to erode their deep-seated fear, though the eldest and most resentful sons remain skeptical.
Her efforts are tested when a brutish female beastman named Xiong Hua attacks the cubs, claiming they hurt her son. Hu Jiaojiao fights back fiercely, protecting her children and driving the attacker away. This display of courage confuses the cubs, who are accustomed to their mother being a coward who only bullied the weak. However, the trauma runs deep. When Hu Jiaojiao faints from her head injury and hunger, the cubs do not seek help. The third son, Long Zhong, even considers killing her to end her tyranny, but the eldest, Long Yu, stops him, fearing retribution from Hu Jiaojiao’s family. They carry her inside and leave her to die, though the youngest cub, Long Yao, instinctively licks her wound.
Upon waking, Hu Jiaojiao finds the cubs have not eaten the porridge she prepared because they were afraid to touch her food without permission. She apologizes sincerely and insists they eat, gradually rebuilding trust through consistent kindness and care. She also confronts Monkey Xiao Tiao, a messenger who has been stealing Long Mo’s prey and delivering inferior animals to the family. Hu Jiaojiao exposes his theft and threatens to force him to share his own mate with Long Mo, compelling him to return the stolen food. The cubs realize they were wrong about Monkey Xiao Tiao, whom they had previously viewed as a secret benefactor.
Despite these small victories, the cubs remain guarded. Long Xiu, the blind second son, suspects that Hu Jiaojiao is not the same person, noting that her behavior is too different from the original owner’s. Hu Jiaojiao acknowledges the difficulty of her task, knowing that the original character’s abuse has left permanent scars. She resolves to build a better life for the family, repair their home, and prepare for Long Mo’s return. Her primary goal is to prevent the tragedy that awaits her in the novel, ensuring that the cubs do not turn into the murderous villains who killed her in the original story. The narrative follows her struggle to overcome years of hatred and establish herself as a loving mother in a hostile beast world.
