Trapped in the Girls’ Dormitory of a Haunted School, I Used Science to Drive the Malevolent Spirits Mad

Lu Mian is a transmigrator who has awakened in the body of a destitute university student at Ningjiang University. Unlike typical protagonists who receive romantic or powerful fates, she finds herself in a world plagued by supernatural entities and must rely on her own resourcefulness to survive. She balances her studies with part-time jobs to pay for tuition and living expenses, maintaining a pragmatic and materialist outlook despite the eerie occurrences surrounding her. The narrative begins with Lin Yue recounting a horror story about six girls in a forbidden Room 404 who died after performing a summoning ritual, only for Lin Yue to reveal she is the spirit of the first victim, Xiao Mu.

The core conflict emerges as the boundaries between the living and the dead blur within the university. Su Qing falls into a coma after experiencing terrifying hallucinations of ghostly hands and bloodied faces, leading her family to believe she has been possessed. Lu Mian, treating the events with scientific skepticism, documents Lin Yue’s sleepwalking episodes and attempts to protect her roommates from supernatural harm. Meanwhile, a Taoist priest and his young apprentice discover that cursed leaflets distributed by Lu Mian have lost their malevolent power due to her unique constitution, identifying her as a key variable in the unfolding tragedy. Lu Mian’s part-time job as a flyer distributor for a haunted house inadvertently connects her to the curse, as she encounters the Taoist practitioners who warn her of the danger.

Key turning points accelerate the plot as Lu Mian investigates the history of the dormitory. She learns from a classmate, Li Zixuan, about the 2011 tragedy where six students in the original Room 404 died under mysterious circumstances, including drowning in a toilet and hanging in a library elevator. The Paranormal Society at the university, of which Lu Mian is a reluctant member, discovers an ancient summoning book and plans to replicate the ritual that caused the original deaths. Lu Mian’s refusal to participate and her subsequent encounter with a vengeful female ghost in the library elevator highlight her vulnerability and the escalating threat. The ghost, which killed Li Zixuan, targets Lu Mian but is repelled by her direct confrontation and use of light, revealing that Lu Mian’s unique nature disrupts the spirits’ usual methods of attack.

As the story progresses, the remaining dorm residents are systematically targeted by the vengeful spirits of the 2011 victims. Xu Xia is lured away from the dorm by a singing entity, while the other roommates face increasing paranoia and supernatural encounters. Lu Mian finds herself isolated as the only sane person in a dormitory descending into madness, yet she continues to intervene physically and logically to save her friends. The narrative establishes a race against time as the summoning ritual approaches, with Lu Mian needing to uncover the truth behind the 404 tragedy and stop the Paranormal Society from unleashing further death. The story direction points toward a confrontation with the collective resentment of the six dead girls, with Lu Mian’s special constitution serving as the only potential counter to the curse that has haunted Ningjiang University for over a decade.
