Su Muqing, a modern emergency room doctor, dies from overwork and transmigrates into the body of Li Zhaodi, an eighteen-year-old girl in 1968 Shanghai. The original host was an adopted daughter raised by the exploitative Li family, who forced her to drop out of school and work as a laborer while favoring their biological twin daughter, Li Meifeng. Su Muqing discovers that her biological parents had given the Li family ten gold bars for her care, which the adoptive parents had secretly kept and squandered. Upon waking, she overhears her adoptive parents plotting to send her to Beidahuang, a remote reclamation area, to collect a settlement fee that they intend to steal for Li Meifeng’s future.
A mechanical voice announces the binding of the Super Great Agricultural Deity System, which transports Su Muqing’s modern apartment into a pocket dimension. The system is dormant due to low energy but offers a daily resource refresh. Through a mysterious connection, Su Muqing establishes a link with her best friend, Song Ranran, from the future. Ranran helps her by creating anonymous letters accusing the Li family of theft and adultery, using AI to mimic Li Meifeng’s handwriting. Su Muqing retrieves the hidden gold bars and US dollars from her adoptive parents’ home, leaving only the original letter from her birth parents as evidence. She also plants an embroidered handkerchief to expose her adoptive father’s affair.
The scheme succeeds when the Revolutionary Committee conducts a night raid, catching Li Jianguo with his mistress. The investigation reveals the family’s crimes, leading to their dismissal and the severing of Su Muqing’s household registration ties. Director Chen of the Women’s Federation arranges for Su Muqing to volunteer for Beidahuang, providing her with a settlement allowance. Before departing, Su Muqing learns from Song Ranran that she is a character in a novel titled The Wild Rose on the Black Soil Land, destined to suffer abuse and suicide. Determined to change her fate, Su Muqing boards a train north, where she encounters Ye Jinchun and Xie Liaoyuan, the novel’s protagonists.
On the train, Su Muqing detects a high-dimensional energy entity through her system—a disabled soldier with a gunshot wound to the leg. During a chaotic ferry crossing, a thief attacks a fellow passenger with a dagger. Su Muqing uses her medical skills to stabilize the victim, while the soldier subdues the attacker. Later, she discovers the soldier’s injury flaring up and applies a system-provided ointment, initiating an energy exchange that begins to recharge her system. This encounter marks the beginning of her new life in Beidahuang, where she plans to use her agricultural system and medical knowledge to survive and thrive, defying the tragic plot outlined in the novel.
