Transmigrated into an Apocalypse Novel: I Refuse to be the Cannon Fodder

Bai Chacha, a modern woman with no supernatural abilities, transmigrates into an apocalyptic novel she had read the night before. She inhabits the body of a cannon fodder supporting female character who shares her name. In the original story, this character is foolish, willful, and ultimately devoured by zombies early in the narrative. Bai Chacha wakes up in a two-story building in the suburbs, where she is greeted by the novel's heroine, Bai Yayi. Bai Yayi is gentle, delicate, and possesses dual supernatural abilities: a rare healing power and a storage space. She has also rescued Xu Ziyuan, the novel's male lead, who was scratched by a zombie while saving others. Xu Ziyuan subsequently awakens a powerful lightning ability. Bai Chacha realizes she must survive by avoiding the fate written for her original self.

Upon settling into her new reality, Bai Chacha discovers she has also awakened a supernatural ability. She possesses psychic powers, including the ability to hear conversations from a distance and project an energy mini-map that tracks the location and strength of humans and zombies. She also finds she can telekinetically manipulate objects. Initially, she believes she is an ordinary person like the original character, but she quickly learns to utilize her mental abilities for reconnaissance and combat. She begins rigorous physical training to compensate for her lack of innate strength, practicing martial arts and zombie-killing techniques. Her demeanor changes from the original character's bratty and aggressive personality to a calm, calculating, and polite exterior, which confuses those around her.

The group prepares to travel to a temporary base in City A. Bai Chacha insists on joining Xu Ziyuan on a supply run to practice killing zombies. During the trip, she witnesses the gruesome reality of the apocalypse, including the rotting flesh and foul stench of the undead. Despite her initial nausea, she kills her first zombie with brutal efficiency, impressing Xu Ziyuan, who had expected her to be a burden. She continues to hunt zombies alone, rapidly improving her combat skills. She also discovers a second supernatural ability: a personal spatial dimension. Unlike Bai Yayi's storage space, Bai Chacha can physically enter her space, which resembles a vast, serene valley with thatched cottages and abundant natural resources. This space allows her to store supplies invisibly and live in comfort away from the harsh external world.

As they scavenge for supplies in a nearby town, Bai Chacha and her companions encounter a rival group led by a fire-wielding man named Brother Kai. Bai Chacha strategically avoids conflict, allowing the others to retreat while she secretly loots multiple stores, including a pharmacy and a mineral water factory. She hides her growing strength and new abilities from the team, particularly from Bai Yayi, who begins to feel insecure about her friendship with Chacha as the latter becomes more capable and attractive to the team members. The group is later joined by Xu Ziyuan's childhood friends: Chen Wenke, Liao Xiaoyu, and Wu Qingqing. Wu Qingqing harbors romantic feelings for Xu Ziyuan and views Bai Chacha as a rival.

The team settles into a larger house, and the dynamics shift as new members integrate. Bai Chacha maintains a low profile, focusing on her training and the management of her hidden space. She observes the interactions between the male and female leads, noting the growing romantic tension. She also prepares for the impending Black Rain, a catastrophic weather event mentioned in the novel that will mutate zombies and plants, making the world even more dangerous. Bai Chacha stocks up on clean water and supplies, knowing that contamination will soon make external resources hazardous. She resolves to become stronger independently, planning to eventually separate from the main group to avoid the tragic fate assigned to her character in the original plot.

Throughout these early days, Bai Chacha navigates the delicate social hierarchy of the survivor team. She uses her psychic abilities to monitor threats and gather information without revealing her full capabilities. Her relationship with Bai Yayi becomes complex; while Bai Yayi remains kind and protective, she senses a change in her friend's personality. Bai Chacha decides to retrieve the jade necklace that Bai Yayi wears, which originally belonged to her and activated the heroine's space ability. She believes that reclaiming it might restore or enhance her own powers. The story follows her careful maneuvering within the group as she balances the need for cooperation with the necessity of self-preservation in a world where trust is scarce and strength is everything.
