Transmigrated in 1980s: The Jiang Family’s Oldest Daughter Returns from the Countryside

In a separate storyline set in a rural commune during the early 1980s, a modern woman transmigrates into the body of Jiang Lai, a tragic character from a novel she once read. In the original story, Jiang Lai was framed for an illicit affair by the ambitious Educated Youth Song Tian, who sought to steal her job assignment to return to the city. The false accusations led to Jiang Lai’s ruin and eventual death at the hands of her abusive husband, Qin Chengyuan. Upon waking in this new reality, Jiang Lai finds herself in the midst of the same crisis. Song Tian and Qin Chengyuan have conspired to accuse her of immoral conduct, using bribed witnesses to support their claims. The local brigade leadership, eager to avoid scandal and maintain their reputations, pressures Jiang Lai’s grandmother, Zhao Guoshi, to settle the matter quietly by surrendering the job quota.

Unlike the original protagonist, the transmigrated Jiang Lai refuses to submit. She demands that the police be called to investigate the false accusations formally. Her boldness surprises everyone, including the brigade leader and the Women’s Director, who had expected her to comply. When the police arrive, Jiang Lai presents crucial evidence: a blackmail note from Song Tian and her own testimony that contradicts the witnesses’ statements. She reveals that she was wearing a different coat that night and that she ran into a neighbor on her way home, disproving the witnesses’ claims. Furthermore, physical evidence on Qin Chengyuan, including a bruise from her kick, corroborates her story of attempted assault.

Under interrogation, Qin Chengyuan confesses to attempting rape and orchestrating the frame-up, while Song Tian admits to her role as an accomplice. The brigade leader and the Women’s Director are reprimanded for their negligence and near-cover-up. Jiang Lai clears her name, securing her right to return to the city and take up her job assignment. She confronts Song Tian and Qin Chengyuan, expressing her disdain for their relationship and wishing them to remain together in their mutual destruction. The incident marks a decisive break from the novel’s tragic plot, allowing Jiang Lai to rewrite her fate and protect her family from the devastation that originally befell them.
