I grabbed his arm, my voice shaking with desperation. 'John, please, listen to me...'" I begged.
But he just looked at me with a cold, hard gaze. "Why do I have to listen to you?" he sneered, his words like a slap in the face.
I felt a lump form in my throat as I tried to explain. "It didn't mean what you think," I whispered.
But he just laughed. A harsh, cruel sound. "Then tell me, who the hell is he?" he spat, his eyes blazing with anger.
I hesitated, my heart racing. I couldn't bring myself to say it out loud. The words got stuck in my throat.
But it was too late. He already knew. The knowledge was written all over his face.
"I knew it," he muttered, turning his back on me.
I felt the tears prick at the corners of my eyes as I watched him walk away from me. The pain was like a physical ache, and I collapsed to the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.
