The Whole Family Crosses the Wilderness: Luckily, We Have Supplies

Tang Jiao and Gu Yu are a married couple living in central China with their four-year-old son An'an and two pets. On a night before October, they are jolted awake by thunder and discover their bedroom has been transported to a wild grassland in late autumn. The room's furniture, supplies, and belongings have accompanied them, but the house itself has vanished. Initially panicked, Tang Jiao draws on her extensive knowledge of survival novels to assess their situation, while Gu Yu focuses on protecting his family.

After surviving the first night in the open grassland, Gu Yu scouts the area and discovers a suitable cave shelter on a hillside with a nearby water source and fruit trees. The family moves their essential supplies to the cave, which features a spacious outer chamber and a smaller, warmer inner chamber with a natural stone platform. They establish a temporary base, building a door for protection and gathering firewood to survive the approaching winter.

Gu Yu explores the surrounding area, finding pear trees, persimmons, and abundant wild vegetables. He also discovers a larger, more suitable cave further away with a river nearby. The family decides to relocate to this new cave, which offers better long-term living conditions. During the move, Tang Jiao suffers from exhaustion due to her sedentary lifestyle, but pushes through to ensure the family's safety.

At the new cave, they set up a more permanent shelter. Gu Yu builds a ladder to access the elevated entrance, while Tang Jiao and An'an gather firewood and clear the area below. They also weave fish traps from natural materials and successfully catch a large quantity of fish and shrimp from the nearby river, securing a vital protein source for the winter.

Tang Jiao processes the catch by salting and drying the fish, creating a food reserve. She also forages for wild greens, including dandelion, plantain, and shepherd's purse, which they blanch and dry for storage. The family works together to establish a routine, with Gu Yu handling heavy labor and Tang Jiao managing food preparation and supply organization.

As winter approaches, the temperature drops significantly. The family relies on their stored supplies, including rice, flour, eggs, and preserved foods, while supplementing their diet with wild vegetables and fish. They continue to explore the area, gathering more resources and preparing for the harsh season ahead. The story follows their adaptation to this new world, focusing on survival, family cooperation, and resource management.
