Yu Wan is a university student who, after dreaming she is the villainous second female lead in a campus romance novel, dedicates herself to avoiding the original plot. In the novel, her stepbrother Gu Chiyuan is devoted to the heroine Su Nanzhi, while Yu Wan becomes an actress who harasses Su Nanzhi, leading to her family's ruin and her own tragic death. Determined to escape this fate, Yu Wan cuts ties with the Gu family, avoids Su Nanzhi, studies hard, and plans to move to Shanghai for graduate school in September.
While working part-time at a café, Yu Wan encounters Li Yi, the novel's male lead, who has returned early from overseas. Li Yi possesses a system that identifies the heroine based on data, but due to a misunderstanding involving a scholarship Yu Wan anonymously provided, the system incorrectly scans Yu Wan as the heroine instead of Su Nanzhi. Li Yi, believing Yu Wan is his destined partner, buys the café and offers Yu Wan a job as store manager with a monthly salary of fifty thousand yuan. Yu Wan accepts the job to save money for her graduate studies, planning to stay only until September.
Li Yi, guided by his system, attempts to win Yu Wan's affection through various strategies, including buying the café, offering money, and trying to create chance encounters. He is initially confused by Yu Wan's lack of romantic interest but remains persistent. Meanwhile, Gu Chiyuan returns to the country permanently and becomes increasingly concerned about Yu Wan's independence and her part-time work. He suspects she might have a boyfriend and begins investigating her living situation.
The plot thickens when Hongtai Group, Gu Chiyuan's company, moves its new office district to the southern part of the city, directly across from Yu Wan's café and near her apartment. This places both the male lead and the heroine in close proximity to Yu Wan, increasing the risk of accidental encounters. Su Nanzhi, now interning at Hongtai, visits the café and meets Li Yi, but he remains focused on Yu Wan. Yu Wan continues to navigate her dual life, working at the café while trying to avoid the original plot's key characters, all while dealing with Li Yi's persistent and often misguided attempts to court her.
