Wen Yuesheng, the County Princess, spent her final days in a sweltering, locked room after a violent outburst against her younger half-sister, Wen Yuruo. Starving and abandoned by servants who feared her wrath, the original owner of the body perished in agony. In her last moments, a woman from a post-apocalyptic world, accustomed to zombies and viral outbreaks, inherited Wen Yuesheng’s memories and identity. Upon waking, she found herself in the body of a despised noblewoman whose only crime was being the malicious supporting character in a novel where her sister was the beloved protagonist. Unlike the original Wen Yuesheng, who was driven by jealousy and tantrums, the new princess remained cold, calculating, and utterly indifferent to the affection of others.

Released from confinement on the Qixi Festival, Wen Yuesheng encountered a procession of lavish gifts from her fiancé, the Yong’an Prince, intended for Wen Yuruo. Rather than succumbing to jealousy, she ordered the dismantling of a swing in her courtyard that symbolized her rivalry with her sister and replaced it with a golden Buddha statue. She then retreated to Tian Ci Temple, where she spent days copying Buddhist scriptures with such intense, lethal energy that they unnerved even the temple’s abbot. A mysterious and handsome official named Yan Ling purchased the scriptures, which subsequently cured the Empress Dowager’s terminal illness upon their delivery to the palace. This miraculous event transformed Wen Yuesheng from a pariah into a figure of reverence, forcing her neglectful father, Minister Wen Xun, to retrieve her from the temple.

Upon her return, Wen Yuesheng demonstrated a ruthless new authority. When a maid named Gu Yu accused the household steward of attempted assault and abuse, Wen Yuesheng ordered the steward executed by beating, ignoring the pleas of the household matriarch who feared scandal. Her father, concerned about her growing influence and the upcoming palace summons, attempted to control her demands, but she remained detached, focusing instead on constructing a wishing pond in her courtyard where she raised turtles that preyed on fish. The Duke of Zhen’s matriarch, a powerful noblewoman who had previously ignored Wen Yuesheng, visited the temple and was so impressed by the princess’s apparent spiritual depth that she requested scriptures, only to be coldly refused. The capital’s nobility, however, misinterpreted her actions as profound wisdom, flocking to her wishing pond to offer gold and jade in exchange for blessings.

The narrative shifts to a palace banquet where Wen Yuesheng, dressed in black robes embroidered with golden Buddhist symbols, walks alongside Yan Ling. Their conversation reveals a mutual recognition of hidden dangers; she notes his presence as a sacrilege in a temple context, while he observes the killing intent radiating from her. Later, at the Empress Dowager’s palace, Wen Yuesheng completes the damaged scripture, her calligraphy displaying a ferocity that shocks the imperial family yet cures the Dowager’s ailments. The Empress Dowager gifts her precious jade Buddha beads, signaling a shift in political favor. However, the banquet is interrupted by chaos when the mentally unstable heir of the Marquis of Zhongyong, brought to the palace under the guise of a marriage proposal, goes on a rampage. He breaks into the women’s resting hall, attacking the noble ladies inside, including Wen Yuruo, as the Emperor and his entourage rush to contain the violence.

A well written story that is a real solid read.  Good pacing, believable characters and development ...  each chapter leaves you anxious for the next while cursing that the daily installments are not 2-3xs longer to better satiate your desire for more.I look forward to seeing what breadth of life development topics the author will allow his main character to influence...  particularly after he has shown such a flare on the war & military side of things.

A genuinely brilliant work. The characters are multidimensional and realistic, the setting and attention to historical detail are superb. The story itself is also great, building at a good pace with a really interesting premise. I love the way that Gengyo adapts to the world that he's been sent to. The action is also exciting and nicely presented, I hope that Gengyo will use more of the sword / be more formally schooled in it in the near future also, as I imagine that it would be very exciting! Thank you Nick for what's looking like an amazing novel. I really hope that you continue to stick with it as in terms of overall quality this is the best that I've seen on Webnovel.
