Qin Man is a skilled surgeon in modern times who collapses after a long operation and transmigrates into the body of a girl with the same name in 1975. She finds herself inside a male-oriented novel called The Flying Era, where the original host was destined for a tragic fate. The original Qin Man was the childhood fiancée of Zhou Huaimin, a man whose life she saved years ago when her grandfather died rescuing him from an icy river. Following the death of her parents, the original host traveled to the provincial capital to fulfill the engagement, only to be intercepted by human traffickers. Qin Man wakes up in a hospital bed, guarded by Chen Fengying, a trafficker posing as her mother. Qin Man quickly assesses her situation, realizing she lacks identity documents and is trapped in a hostile environment where rumors have already painted her as a vain, materialistic woman.

Recognizing the danger, Qin Man decides to fight back rather than succumb to the original plot, which saw the host sold to the mountains and driven to suicide. She plays along with the traffickers' expectations, demanding expensive pork dumplings to buy time while secretly analyzing her surroundings. When the traffickers attempt to drug the food, Qin Man uses her knowledge of chemistry to detect the sedative. She orchestrates a public scene by demanding compensation from Tan Zheng, the military officer who accidentally hit her with his jeep. Her loud outburst attracts police attention, allowing her to expose Chen Fengying and her accomplice, Zhao the Lame, as human traffickers. Tan Zheng assists in the arrest, impressed by Qin Man's courage and intelligence. After the traffickers are taken into custody, Qin Man receives financial support and medical care from Tan Zheng and his friend, Doctor Song Qingsong.

Qin Man's primary goal is to sever her engagement to Zhou Huaimin and escape the fate of the original character. Accompanied by Doctor Song and Nurse Yang Xiaoyun, she travels to the Zhou family residence. She learns from a neighbor that Zhou Huaimin is holding his engagement banquet to another woman, Tian Dan, the sister of a battalion commander. The Zhou family had deliberately delayed contacting Qin Man and allowed the traffickers to take her, hoping she would disappear. Qin Man decides to crash the banquet to publicly expose their betrayal. At the restaurant, the Zhou family attempts to discredit her by claiming she abandoned him for another man. Qin Man counters their lies by producing a stack of letters and remittance receipts proving the Zhou family had been financially dependent on her for years.

During the confrontation, Zhou Huaimin tries to manipulate the situation by feigning ignorance and offering her a small monthly stipend to go away quietly. Qin Man refuses the money and reveals a forged letter written in Zhou Huaimin's handwriting, which claims he still loves her and plans to marry her. This creates confusion and doubt among the guests. The Tian family, feeling humiliated by the public scandal, begins to question the marriage. Qin Man's actions shift the power dynamic, forcing the Zhou family to face the consequences of their ingratitude. Instead of returning to the countryside, Qin Man establishes herself in the city with the help of her new allies, setting the stage for a future where she builds her own life independent of the novel's predetermined tragic path.
