Lu Meiyu, a woman who survived the apocalypse by stockpiling supplies, finds herself transmigrating into the body of a desperate young mother in ancient times. She awakens in a pond after attempting suicide, rescued by villagers who inform her she has two young daughters to care for. Upon returning to her dilapidated home, she discovers that her personal storage ring is gone, replaced by a scar that still grants access to a damaged spatial dimension. A cold system voice warns her that she must raise the children well or face death, and that the space will vanish if she fails. Although her pre-apocalypse supplies are mostly lost, a spiritual spring and a temporary convenience store remain, offering her a lifeline.
Lu Meiyu quickly adapts to her harsh new reality. She learns that her husband, Liu Qingsheng, was conscripted to fight at the border, and his military pay has been entirely collected by his mother, Zhangshi. The Liu family, greedy and cruel, had driven Lu Meiyu and her daughters out, leaving them with almost nothing. When Zhangshi and other relatives come to harass her, Lu Meiyu uses an electric baton from her space to incapacitate them, shocking the villagers and establishing her dominance. She realizes that in this rigid, patriarchal society, reasoning is futile; only strength commands respect.
Determined to secure a future for her children, whom she renames Xiaoxuan and Xiaowei, Lu Meiyu confronts the Liu family and demands a fair division of household assets. When the village head, bribed by the Liu family, refuses to mediate fairly, Lu Meiyu threatens to expose the corruption and uses her mysterious "magic stick" to force compliance. She successfully reclaims copper coins, rice, farming tools, and a chicken, and negotiates for one mu of paddy field and half a mu of dry land. The Liu family, terrified of her apparent sorcery, agrees to the terms.
With land in her name, Lu Meiyu begins to build a sustainable life. She discovers that the spiritual spring water can revitalize crops, and she learns to forage for mushrooms in the nearby mountains, which the system buys at a profitable rate. She also acquires a realistic toy handgun with steel bullets, which she uses to hunt rabbits. Her earnings allow her to buy meat and candy, improving her daughters' health and her own appearance. The villagers, once dismissive, now view her with a mix of fear and admiration.
The conflict escalates when the Liu family, envious of her improved lifestyle, accuses her of eating meat while elders starve and demand she be divorced for her perceived impiety. They bring the village head and elders to her home, intending to force a divorce. Lu Meiyu, however, welcomes the divorce. She publicly denounces her husband as useless for allowing his family to exploit her and the children, and she insists on taking custody of Xiaoxuan and Xiaowei. She threatens to change the children's surname to Lu, which would disgrace the Liu family lineage. Fearing the social fallout and Lu Meiyu's mysterious power, the Liu family backs down, and the divorce is not finalized. Instead, a tense truce is established, with Lu Meiyu vowing to cut all ties with the Liu family. As she looks toward the future, she encounters two mysterious riders on horseback asking for directions to Wildman Peak, hinting at new adventures and challenges ahead.
