Lan Yun'er, a thousand-year-old ginseng spirit on the verge of ascending to immortality, is struck by a heavenly tribulation and transmigrated into the body of a cannon fodder female supporting character in a 1980s period novel titled "Warm Marriage in the 80s: The Wife Has a Space." The original host was a beautiful but foolish woman married to Huo Jinchen, a brilliant farmer who had topped the county in the college entrance exam. Instigated by the novel's female lead, Zhou Mingyue, and her sister Zhou Mingli, the original host had spent their short marriage attempting suicide, poisoning livestock, and stealing to force a divorce so she could marry a city playboy named Wang Zhiqiang. Upon waking in the frozen river after being rescued by her indifferent husband, Lan Yun'er quickly assesses her situation and decides to reject the original plot. She recognizes Zhou Mingyue as a manipulative "white lotus" and Huo Jinchen as a desirable, intelligent husband, choosing instead to protect her marriage and seek revenge on her enemies.
The core conflict arises from Lan Yun'er's transformation from a troublesome wife into a sharp, capable woman who refuses to be bullied. When Huo Jinchen, believing she still wants a divorce, prepares to grant her wish, she reverses his decision, declaring her love for him and her desire to stay. This shift confuses and eventually warms Huo Jinchen, who had resigned himself to an unhappy marriage. The conflict intensifies with the introduction of Cao Yunxia, Huo Jinchen's jealous and mean-spirited elder sister-in-law, who constantly schemes to drive Lan Yun'er out of the family. Lan Yun'er confronts Cao Yunxia directly, reclaiming stolen property and physically defending herself, earning the unexpected support of Huo Jinchen, who publicly sides with his wife against his own family.
A key turning point occurs when Zhou Mingyue and Zhou Mingli attempt to frame Lan Yun'er for stealing from Captain Fan Tiezhu's house, hoping to ruin her reputation and force the divorce. Lan Yun'er, however, anticipates their plot. She uses her remaining spiritual powers, commanding hedgehogs and communicating with birds, to sabotage Zhou Mingli's attempt. When Zhou Mingli is caught inside the house, she falsely accuses Lan Yun'er of coercion. Lan Yun'er counters with a detailed rebuttal, exposing the sisters' history of manipulation. The situation escalates when a witness, Bian Chunyu, initially lies to protect Zhou Mingyue but is struck by thunder when she swears a false oath, revealing the divine justice Lan Yun'er commands. The villagers, superstitious and swayed by the omens, turn against the Zhou sisters.
As the story progresses, Lan Yun'er systematically dismantles the antagonists' schemes. Zhou Mingli's mother, Qi Huifang, attempts to protect her younger daughter Zhou Mingyue by sacrificing Zhou Mingli, but the villagers' disdain grows for both sisters due to their revealed obsession with Huo Jinchen. Lan Yun'er also addresses the financial struggles of the Huo family, noting the meager diet of sweet potato porridge and vowing to improve their living standards. She establishes clear boundaries with her in-laws, particularly the greedy Cao Yunxia and Huo Junda, refusing to subsidize their spoiled son, Huo Tianhe, while showing compassion to the neglected second sister-in-law, Zhong Cuitao. The narrative follows Lan Yun'er as she navigates rural politics, builds a genuine partnership with Huo Jinchen, and uses her spiritual abilities to protect her new life while preparing to confront the original female lead's impending acquisition of a magical space and "Koi Luck" trait.
