You likely heard how everything can be represented by 0s and 1s. Internally, computers process all information as binary numerals - expressions using only 0 and 1. For instance, the binary 00, 01, 10 and 11 correspond to the decimal values 0, 1, 2 and 3.
Why restrict to 0 and 1? Because electrical signals can only input and output those. More accurately, 0 and 1 are abstractions for humans. The system recognizes high/low voltage differentials as ON/OFF states instead. For example, 5V = ON, 0V = OFF.
