Qu Yaoyao, the third daughter of the Xingyang Sect, is found dead with her soul scattered after an attack by a demonic entity. Her maid, Yun Zhi, mourns beside her crystal coffin until the corpse suddenly revives. However, the entity that has returned is not Qu Yaoyao but a Little Snow Lotus, a thousand-year-old spiritual plant that had just transformed into human form. The snow lotus had eagerly left her cold pond to meet the Qingxi Immortal Venerable, the white-robed immortal she had admired for a century, only to encounter a blood-stained version of him who strangled her to death under a bloody moon. Having died once before, the snow lotus decides to survive by assuming Qu Yaoyao’s identity, despite suffering from memory loss and a weak, unaccustomed human body.

When he reveals a portrait he painted of the snow lotus in human form, the snow lotus realizes with horror that he is indeed the same person who killed her. The gentle immortal and the blood-soaked demon are one and the same. Trapped and terrified, she flees but is caught by his magical snakes. To save her life, she fabricates a lie, claiming the portrait depicts her illegitimate younger sister who stole the snow lotus to cure a mysterious illness.

Xie Qingxun listens to her elaborate deception with cold detachment. He recognizes the resemblance between Qu Yaoyao and the girl in the painting but remains ambiguous in his response. As he prepares to kill her for her intrusion and lies, his disciple Gu Tianci interrupts with news of a massacre at the Yaowang Sect. She breaks down in tears, overwhelmed by guilt and fear, while Xie Qingxun watches her with an unreadable expression, having decided to spare her life for the moment to investigate the truth behind her claims.

The story establishes a complex dynamic where the protagonist is trapped between her love for the immortal she once admired and her terror of the demon he has become. Xie Qingxun, aware that a snow lotus has been stolen, suspects Qu Yaoyao’s identity but plays along, testing her lies while hiding his own knowledge of her true nature.
