It had been some time since he'd sent Lassen out with a handful of men. They could hardly spare the manpower, but securing their western border was far too important to ignore. If the King was coming then they needed to have a reasonably clear path to arrive. He had no idea what battle plan Brenjulf had in store, but it would be for nothing if they were waylaid by an ambush. Smoke rose from the west. Some small farmsteads were clearly burning. The pitch black sky was luminous with the evil blaze of the smoldering buildings. Lassen could only do so much. He appreciated that. Why was it always the innocent who suffered the most in war? Warriors fought warriors. Cowards fought peasants. Clearly this invading force wasn't wanting for cravens. The sound of distant screaming and burning timber overwhelmed the peaceful silence. This was it. The storm had begun. The calm was over. Soon, the air would be buzzing with the excitement of battle. He hoped that his preparations had been enough. the gods alone know he couldn't have done much more.

The princess' grin was getting wider and wider to the point she looks like a crazy lunatic. Then the magic circle burst into glowing particles before slowly disappearing completely.

Well, this story is rich, if anything. The female lead especially. She's the thing that draws me into the story the most - her backstory in particular.I'd say it's perhaps a theme that the author will want to pursue the longer the story goes on, but I'm not sure. The terrifying disasters that come about as a result of parents being unable to handle the afflictions of their children is demonstrated pretty well in this story.With the FL and her obsession over this entity she calls Ree-ree causing her mother to almost go insane, mistaking it for depression, it gives a bit of a hint as to what caused the FL's Reincarnation.Speaking of Reincarnation, I'd say the story approaches it well in the first and second chapters, but I feel there's a bit of a disconnect with the reveal of the FL's backstory after that.I was intrigued with the introduction of the hairy wolf and the demon creature, but we cut to the FL's backstory instead which impacts the flow a bit.I have no doubt that there's significance in us seeing what the FLs life was like before she reincarnated though. I can't yet see the full vision behind the story.But so far, so great! I recommend this
