The Darling Little Fox Turns 300

Yun Li is a nine-tailed fox who has spent nearly three hundred years living in the Demon Realm, sheltered by her parents and brothers. Her life is one of leisure and indulgence, centered around play and her favorite food, chicken. When her father, Yun Che, departs on a trip without her, he leaves behind a bundle of human currency and a note instructing her to find her three older brothers in the human world. Despite her inexperience and naivety, Yun Li is thrilled by the prospect of visiting the human realm, a place she has only heard about through her friend Lailai, a little lion who often speaks of human delicacies. Before leaving, she visits Qing Ling, a bluebird friend who warns her of the dangers humans pose to demons. He explains the Demon Code, which forbids revealing her true form, using magic, or harming humans in the human world. Qing Ling emphasizes that humans would skin her for her fur, a threat that frightens Yun Li but does not deter her from her journey.

Yun Li registers at the Demon Realm Administration Bureau and obtains a pass that transforms into a thread around her wrist. Upon entering the human world, she quickly realizes the practical difficulties of her situation. She cannot operate a mobile phone, having never used one before, and her attempts to seek help are interrupted by a small, injured yellow dog named Baibai. The dog begs Yun Li to save his young master, a little girl who has been kidnapped by human traffickers and locked in a warehouse. Driven by a strong sense of justice and compassion, Yun Li agrees to help. She and the dog devise a plan to distract the guard, but Yun Li is forced to use magic to unlock the cage, suffering painful backlash from violating the Demon Code. She rescues the terrified girl, fighting off the traffickers using her martial arts skills, but is eventually subdued by a stun baton. The dog intervenes, allowing Yun Li to cast spells that disable the traffickers and bring the police to the scene. Realizing she is running out of time and risks transforming back into a fox, Yun Li flees into the woods, leaving the girl and dog with the arriving authorities.

Exhausted and shivering in the rain, Yun Li attempts to flag down a car but is accidentally hit by a black vehicle. The passenger, Fu Qingheng, a cold and wealthy man, orders his driver to check the scene. Yun Li, desperate for shelter and food, transforms back into her human form and pretends to have amnesia after the collision. Fu Qingheng, intrigued by her striking resemblance to a little girl from his recurring dreams, takes her to the hospital. Medical examinations reveal no physical injuries, leading the doctor, Ding Zhen, to suspect she is faking. Yun Li, hungry and lost, decides to latch onto Fu Qingheng, whom she perceives as wealthy and kind. She boldly declares her intention to "give herself" to him, misunderstanding the romantic connotation of the phrase, and asks to be his "poop scooper," a term she learned from Lailai for someone who takes care of pets. Fu Qingheng, confused but curious, brings her to his mansion.

At the Fu residence, Yun Li is welcomed by the butler, Yang Qing, who mistakenly believes she is Fu Qingheng's future wife. Yun Li is delighted by the luxurious accommodations and the abundance of chicken dishes prepared in her honor. She settles into a room adjacent to Fu Qingheng's, sharing a balcony with him. Her behavior remains childlike and innocent; she invites him to sleep in her bed, not understanding the impropriety, and offers him a precious night pearl as a gift. Fu Qingheng, though initially annoyed by her forwardness, finds himself drawn to her purity and the familiarity of her presence. He begins investigating her background but finds no records, deepening his mystery. Yun Li, meanwhile, is content with her new life, enjoying the comfort and food while waiting to find her brothers. The story establishes a dynamic where Yun Li's naive demon nature clashes with and gradually softens Fu Qingheng's cold exterior, setting the stage for a relationship built on misunderstanding, curiosity, and growing affection.
