Lil was born as a twin in the Kingdom of Reiz, where twins are considered cursed. While her sister Mireille was raised in luxury and chosen as the Saint, Lil was confined to an underground room from childhood, kept isolated and educated only minimally. Her only companions were a small mouse and a voice in her head named Michiru-chan, who shared memories from Lil's past life. When Mireille was selected as the Saint, Lil's parents deemed her unnecessary and had her abandoned in a forest outside their barrier.
After being thrown from a carriage, Lil collapsed from exhaustion. A group of squirrels found her and alerted Ian Wilson, captain of the Second Holy Knights outpost. Ian rescued her and brought her to his base, where he learned that Lil possessed the rare skill of Interpreter, allowing her to communicate with divine beasts. This skill was historically significant, as the founding king of the kingdom had also been an Interpreter. Ian decided to care for Lil temporarily while arrangements were made.
At the outpost, Lil quickly bonded with the knights and the divine beasts. She was given the name Lil by Ian and was later adopted as his daughter after her Interpreter skill was officially confirmed. This adoption allowed her to remain at the outpost while being protected under the royal family. Her twin sister Mireille, the Saint of Reiz, possessed the Eye of Truth skill, which made Lil seem less valuable to her birth family.
Lil's life transformed as she adjusted to her new family. She received proper food, clothing, baths, and education. The Holy Knights outpost became her home, where she learned magic under Gloria's tutelage and discovered her own magical abilities. She formed friendships with various divine beasts, including squirrels, bears, birds, and felines, who regularly visited the outpost. Her guardian, a young Silver Wolf named Kohaku, was assigned to her by the Silver Wolf Tribe.
The story follows Lil's daily life as she grows stronger and happier. She helps maintain peace between humans and divine beasts, using her Interpreter skill to report on forest conditions. The outpost knights, many of whom were also abandoned children, welcomed her warmly. Ian, now her father, protected her from political complications while she learned about the world. The narrative highlights Lil's adjustment from a neglected child to a beloved member of a found family, set against a backdrop of fantasy elements including magic, divine beasts, and kingdom politics.
