The narrative begins in the early autumn of 1967, as Baba guides the toddler through the outskirts of a city to find her biological family, the Fu clan, a prestigious imperial lineage now in ruins.

The Fu Family has fallen from grace, accused of severe crimes and stripped of their status. They are being harassed and beaten by a group of Red Armband thugs led by Hui Wu, a man harboring a personal grudge against Fu Huaming, the fourth master of the family. Huaming, who assumed leadership at fifteen, maintains his dignity despite the physical abuse, protecting his elderly parents, siblings, and wife, Qingqing Yin. Qingqing, originally from Hong Kong, suffered a mental breakdown after Pang Fu was stolen by a wicked nanny during her one-month celebration. The family is locked in a dilapidated courtyard, enduring humiliation and violence while awaiting their fate.

Pang Fu’s arrival at the scene coincides with a moment of crisis. When Hui Wu prepares to strike Huaming, the toddler intervenes, shouting that the man is hitting her father. Zhou Hai reveals that he was locked up by Li Chaoying, who sought evidence against him. By escaping with Pang Fu’s help, Zhou Hai gains a powerful ally. He promises to free the Fu Family within three days, leveraging his authority to orchestrate their release. Meanwhile, the Fu Family discovers that the food provided by a former student of Fu Laoda, Zhang Jianguo, was laced with rat poison.
