A subsequent supernova explosion sent a gamma-ray burst toward Earth, causing an electromagnetic pulse that crippled technology and a stream of meson particles that decimated populations on two continents. The event introduced two mysterious atmospheric elements, Qiang and Yi, which caused rapid biological evolution in all living organisms. Humans who survived evolved into Evolvers, gaining enhanced physical abilities, while flora and fauna became dangerous predators. Ordinary civilians struggled for survival, while Evolvers controlled resources and lived in relative comfort.

Xia Qing is a Level 4 Strength Evolver who lost both parents to the chaos of the disaster.
