Surviving the Apocalypse: Open Loot Boxes, Stockpile Supplies, and Win While Lying Down

Bai Zhuo is a solitary survivor in a world devastated by a rapid zombie apocalypse. Unlike most survivors, she possesses a mysterious Loot-Box System that provides her with random supplies, weapons, and mission rewards. To conceal her true nature, she adopts the alias of a space-type ability user, a rare classification that would make her a target for various factions. Her primary goal is simple survival, but she refuses to remain passive, constantly seeking to improve her situation through the system's missions. She rescues Xue Yanhen, a childhood friend from an orphanage, who becomes her only trusted companion. Xue Yanhen awakens a self-only ability and proves to be a capable fighter, wielding a Tang dynasty modao that Bai Zhuo acquired from the system.

The narrative tension escalates when Bai Zhuo is ambushed by a squad of ability users who mistake her for a space-type. She defeats them using her enhanced physical strength and a system-issued frying pan, learning that a larger organization is actively hunting space-type users. This encounter forces Bai Zhuo and Xue Yanhen to flee their home in Yun City and travel to Ning City. During their journey, they encounter a severe extreme cold event, a global weather anomaly that drops temperatures to nearly minus one hundred degrees. Bai Zhuo anticipates this disaster and uses system rewards to secure insulation materials, allowing her and Xue Yanhen to survive comfortably while others perish.

A key turning point occurs when Bai Zhuo saves a special operations squad led by Gu Zhun from the freezing storm. Gu Zhun’s team is on a mission to retrieve meteorological data from a fallen weather monitoring station. Bai Zhuo receives a hidden system mission to protect Gu Zhun, as his death would disrupt the course of the apocalypse. She provides the squad with supplies and information, helping them survive the extreme cold. In return, Gu Zhun gives her an ID tag that grants access to the Ning City survivor base, establishing a bond of mutual respect. However, Bai Zhuo chooses not to join the base, fearing that her system would be discovered by the numerous ability users present there.

After the extreme cold subsides, Bai Zhuo continues to tail Gu Zhun’s team to ensure the mission’s completion. She intervenes when they are ambushed by rival ability users, neutralizing the attackers and allowing Gu Zhun to escape. Upon completing the mission, she receives a gold loot box containing a locked safe house, which she cannot yet use due to system level restrictions. The story further develops when Bai Zhuo and Xue Yanhen explore a department store in Ning City to find a working radio. They discover that zombies can evolve and form crystals, which grant them abilities. This revelation deepens the existential threat facing humanity.

While scavenging, Bai Zhuo is confronted by a metal-type and a water-type ability user who witnessed her using her system inventory. They attempt to capture her, believing she is a high-value space-type user. Bai Zhuo fights them off with the help of Xue Yanhen and a mysterious sniper girl who intervenes from a distance. The sniper, impressed by Bai Zhuo’s combat skills, agrees to keep her secret. Bai Zhuo realizes that her cover is increasingly fragile and that she must remain vigilant. The story concludes with Bai Zhuo and Xue Yanhen continuing their journey, aware that both human factions and evolved zombies pose significant dangers. Bai Zhuo’s strategy remains to stay hidden while leveraging her system to gain an advantage in the harsh new world.
