Danqing, a modern woman with a passion for gaming, dies after a sudden, unexplained pain while playing a virtual reality game. She awakens six years later in the body of an infant named Danqing, abandoned in the snow on a winter solstice. A white-haired stranger delivers the baby to Fu Yun, a Taoist priest residing in Zhiwei Guan, a temple dedicated to the Big Dipper. Fu Yun, who lacks any child-rearing experience, reluctantly adopts the infant. Danqing grows up in the mountain temple, surrounded by Taoist priests and acolytes who care for her with varying degrees of competence. Despite her adult consciousness, she is trapped in a child's body, forced to navigate a world where she must hide her true nature while adapting to her new life.

As Danqing reaches the age of seven, her foster father, Fu Yun, begins to teach her about the stars and the mysteries of the Big Dipper. He reveals that the stars are not merely celestial bodies but are connected to fate and the turmoil of the world. Danqing discovers that she possesses a star chart scroll from her previous life, which she now must carry as part of her training. Meanwhile, a peach blossom spirit named Zhuohua, who was once abandoned by Danqing's previous self, begins to haunt the temple, drawn to the Taohua Niang wine that Fu Yun's companion, Qianzhi, brews. Zhuohua's presence introduces an element of danger, as he nearly kills Danqing in a fit of drunken rage before Fu Yun intervenes.

The story shifts focus to Ran Gusheng, a young boy from the General's Manor, who suffers from a severe nightmare affliction that leaves him gaunt and exhausted. His family seeks help from various physicians, but to no avail. Ran Gusheng sneaks out of the manor and visits Zhiwei Guan, hoping to find relief through prayer. There, he encounters Bi Xiao, a playful and somewhat unreliable Taoist priest who claims to be able to help. Bi Xiao, along with Danqing, decides to investigate the source of Ran Gusheng's suffering, suspecting a supernatural cause related to a black mist surrounding the General's Manor.

Bi Xiao reveals that he is a semi-immortal capable of seeing supernatural phenomena. He and Danqing, along with Ran Gusheng, sneak into the General's Manor to confront the source of the black mist. They encounter Yan Lingyu, Ran Gusheng's cousin, who is also afflicted by the same nightmare curse. The children's intrusion is discovered, and they are thrown out by the guards. However, Fu Yun and Qianzhi arrive shortly after, having been invited by the General's family to treat Yan Lingyu. Fu Yun, using his expertise in acupuncture and moxibustion, begins to treat the young master, while Bi Xiao explains that they can treat the symptoms but not the root cause of the curse.

As the narrative progresses, Danqing finds herself entangled in a web of supernatural events and political intrigue. She must balance her dual identity as a modern woman and a child in a Taoist temple, all while uncovering the secrets behind her reincarnation and the mysterious forces at play. The story sets the stage for a journey that will test her resilience, intelligence, and ability to navigate a world where the boundaries between the mortal and the spiritual are increasingly blurred.
