Steponas, an ordinary man with an unremarkable life, is jolted from his mundane reality into a mysterious new world when he falls asleep on his uncomfortable couch-bed. Upon waking, he finds himself in an enormous, unfamiliar cathedral, surrounded by a robed assembly who proclaim him to be their "Great Hero," destined to vanquish a terrifying evil that threatens humanity. The demons of the north, they explain, are powerful, and only an otherworlder blessed by their goddess can save them from certain doom.
