Shi Zhen is a twenty-two-year-old screenwriter from Xiaoshan, a fifth-tier city in China’s Northeast. Her best friend, Shi Tingwan, gifts her noise-canceling headphones to help her sleep despite the constant noise from upstairs neighbors.

Meanwhile, in the southern city of Shulin, Xie Qian is the twenty-nine-year-old sole heir to the wealthy Xie family business. He spent ten years of his childhood in the Northeast living with his maternal grandfather before returning to Shulin. Xie Qian holds deep resentment toward his father, Xie Longhui, for prioritizing business profits over family honor and for driving his mother, Lan Yudie, back to the Northeast during a previous conflict. Xie Qian is cold, disciplined, and refuses to collaborate with foreign investors, a stance that causes frequent arguments with his father. At the bubble tea shop, Shi Zhen witnesses severe hygiene violations. The manager, Chen Hong, and the senior employee, Zhang Meiren, use dirty rags and expired ingredients. When a food poisoning incident strikes multiple customers, Zhang Meiren attempts to blame Shi Zhen and deletes the surveillance footage to cover up the shop’s negligence. Shi Zhen, despite her fear of losing her job, decides to gather evidence. She records the unsanitary conditions and the deleted footage, confronting the managers in front of the angry customers. Although Zhang Meiren tries to shift the blame onto her, Shi Zhen remains steadfast, determined to expose the truth.
