Zhong Xiwang, a young woman with wine-red hair, traveled from her homeland to Australia to work as a sea urchin hunter, driven by the prospect of high wages to support her parents. Despite language barriers and rigorous training, she secured a position on a fishing vessel. During her first expedition, she encountered a pod of orcas and formed a friendly bond with a particularly playful male orca, whom she nicknamed the Great Orca. The crew, led by Captain Parker, included Jess, a senior diver who displayed overt romantic interest in Zhong Xiwang, and other teammates such as Paul, Chuck, and Karen. The atmosphere was initially relaxed, but the group soon moved to a remote, unfamiliar bay to avoid changing weather conditions, unaware that they were entering the territory of ancient, terrifying creatures.
The tranquility shattered when a massive, centipede-like creature with six glowing eyes and armored scales attacked the divers. It killed Karen by piercing his neck and dragged Chuck underwater, leaving no trace. Panic ensued as the small transport boat capsized under repeated ramming from the unseen beast. Zhong Xiwang, recognizing that the creature was attracted to sound and movement, swam silently toward a nearby island while the others were picked off one by one. Upon reaching the shore, she encountered a second monster: a tall, slender, featureless humanoid figure with long dragging arms and tentacles on its back. This creature, known in local legends as the Tall and Thin Ghostly Shadow, abducted her and carried her into the dense forest, pursued by the centipede monster.
Trapped in the humanoid’s nest, which was lined with animal and human bones, Zhong Xiwang fought back with a handgun, though her bullets proved ineffective against its hard skull. When the centipede monster attacked the humanoid, Zhong Xiwang seized the opportunity to escape, running through the forest until she reached the sea. She swam toward the orca pod, calling for help. The Great Orca recognized her and rammed the centipede monster, allowing the pod to drive the beast away. The orcas returned Zhong Xiwang to the fishing boat, where only Captain Parker, Jess, and Paul remained alive. The survivors were rescued by authorities, and Zhong Xiwang underwent questioning and media interviews, learning that the monsters were real entities from urban legends.
Traumatized by the events, Zhong Xiwang returned to her apartment, covering her walls with religious portraits and arming herself with weapons. However, the Tall and Thin Ghostly Shadow appeared in her room, tearing down the portraits and abducting her again. In the forest, she resisted fiercely, stabbing the creature and spitting at it in disgust. The monster, seemingly fascinated rather than enraged, treated her as a toy, carrying her through the woods and mimicking her speech. During her captivity, she was attacked by a python, which the humanoid killed before drinking the blood from her wound. She later escaped into the forest, only to be confronted by the centipede monster and a third entity, a Wendigo—a monstrous hybrid of deer and wolf. The Wendigo initially protected her from the centipede, but Zhong Xiwang fled anyway, eventually being rescued once more by the Great Orca and the pod.
After being deposited near a human settlement, Zhong Xiwang was attacked by a group of local men who intended to assault her. She fought back, injuring one man with a stone and escaping to a crowded area where she was protected by bystanders. After receiving medical treatment for her injuries, she returned to her apartment, exhausted and battered. Upon entering her home, she found the Tall and Thin Ghostly Shadow waiting for her, having followed her from the forest. The creature sniffed her bandaged wounds and pulled her close, displaying a confusing mix of predatory instinct and strange curiosity, leaving Zhong Xiwang trapped between human malice and supernatural terror.
