Chu Zhi is a twenty-year-old art design sophomore at Qing University who lives in the Bo family mansion in Jing City. Orphaned and abandoned by her biological parents, she was adopted by a grandfather who, on his deathbed, entrusted her to his close friend, Old Master Bo. For thirteen years, she has lived as a dependent in the wealthy household, maintaining a subservient and sweet demeanor to ensure her continued shelter. Her primary role is to serve Bo Xu, the biological son of Bo Junliang, who treats her with cold disdain despite her lifelong devotion to him. Bo Xu harbors a deep affection for Tang Yingxue, a girl his father sponsored ten years ago, and views Chu Zhi as an insignificant burden.
The narrative tension escalates with the return of Bo Chi Yi, the illegitimate son of Old Master Bo and a ruthless business magnate who built the C.Y. Group into an empire surpassing the Bo family. Bo Chi Yi is known for his cruel temperament and lack of familial loyalty. During Chu Zhi’s coming-of-age ceremony a year prior, he gave her a ten-carat pink diamond ring, an act she interpreted as harassment and returned. Upon his sudden return to Beijing, Bo Chi Yi displays a singular, obsessive interest in Chu Zhi. He insists on accompanying her to the hospital to visit Old Master Bo, then commandeers her entire day for a city tour, and later forces her to dine with him at an expensive couples’ restaurant. Despite his intimidating presence and sexually charged advances, Chu Zhi remains terrified, interpreting his behavior as predatory.
The central conflict ignites when Tang Yingxue returns from university and demands Chu Zhi’s art studio as her own bedroom. Bo Xu and Bo Junliang readily agree, prioritizing Tang Yingxue’s comfort over Chu Zhi’s rights. During the move, Tang Yingxue deliberately damages Chu Zhi’s valuable paintings, including a critical submission for an art competition and a masterpiece titled "Rivers and Mountains" that Bo Chi Yi had previously expressed interest in purchasing online. When Chu Zhi confronts the family, they dismiss her grievances, labeling the paintings as worthless and refusing to hold Tang Yingxue accountable. Humiliated and realizing her precarious position in the household, Chu Zhi announces her intention to move out.
Bo Chi Yi intervenes dramatically, arriving at the mansion and asserting dominance over the Bo family hierarchy. He exposes Tang Yingxue’s deceit, forces her to write an IOU for two million yuan in damages, and commands Chu Zhi to keep the debt as a form of protection. He reveals that he is the online buyer known as "1" who offered thirty million for her painting, disclosing that he suffers from late-stage depression and wishes to possess her art before ending his life. Chu Zhi refuses to sell the painting, instead offering him candy as a gesture of comfort. Bo Chi Yi, however, makes his romantic intentions explicit, stating he wishes to pursue her despite the age gap and their lack of blood relation. The story concludes with Chu Zhi caught between her desire for independence and the overwhelming, possessive attention of a man whose mental state and power make escape difficult, while Bo Xu remains blind to her true worth, still fixated on Tang Yingxue.
