Jun Yueyue, a hardened survivor of a zombie apocalypse, dies after being devoured by infected humans while on a supply mission. Upon waking, she discovers she has transmigrated into the body of a vicious female supporting character in a romance novel titled "The Story of a Disabled from a Wealthy Family's Counterattack." In this new reality, she inhabits the body of Jun Yueyue, the wealthy but cruel older sister of the female lead, who is married to Fang Anyu, the deaf-mute younger brother of the novel's male protagonist, Fang Anyan. The original owner of the body had married Fang Anyu solely to get closer to Fang Anyan, treating her husband with disdain and forcing him to sleep in a storage room filled with flowers.
Jun Yueyue's transmigration coincides with a critical plot point where the original character had drugged Fang Anyan in an attempt to seduce him, but the drug accidentally affected Fang Anyu instead, leading to an unintended sexual encounter between Jun Yueyue and her deaf-mute brother-in-law. Waking up the next morning, Jun Yueyue is initially shocked by the situation but quickly accepts it, viewing sex as a mundane transaction similar to survival exchanges in the apocalypse. Unlike the original character, she does not despise Fang Anyu and attempts to communicate with him using a notebook, as he cannot hear or speak. Her attitude is pragmatic; she offers him money or gifts as compensation and expresses a desire for a quick divorce so she can live a quiet, comfortable life away from the novel's main storyline.
The core conflict arises from the stark contrast between Jun Yueyue's apocalyptic mindset and the delicate social norms of the wealthy Fang family. Fang Anyan, the male protagonist, is fiercely protective of his brother and deeply suspicious of Jun Yueyue, interpreting her blunt and unconventional behavior as malicious manipulation. He frequently confronts her, accusing her of mistreating Fang Anyu, while Jun Yueyue remains indifferent to his anger, finding his dramatic reactions amusing and trivial compared to the horrors she survived. Meanwhile, Fang Anyu, who has spent his life being pitied or ignored, is confused by Jun Yueyue's directness and occasional kindness. He begins to develop feelings for her, struggling with his inability to express them verbally.
A key turning point occurs when Fang Anyu suffers from severe indigestion after overeating. Jun Yueyue, using practical knowledge from the apocalypse, forces him to vomit to relieve his pain, an act that Fang Anyan misinterprets as abuse. However, Jun Yueyue's subsequent care, including bathing Fang Anyu and helping him clean up, begins to shift their dynamic. Fang Anyu starts to see Jun Yueyue not as a monster, but as someone who treats him with a strange form of respect and attention. Their interactions become more frequent, with Jun Yueyue teasing him and Fang Anyu slowly opening up, though he remains unable to fully understand her intentions.
As the story progresses, Jun Yueyue prepares to visit her grandfather, the patriarch of the Jun family, who is planning to test both sisters to determine who will inherit a valuable piece of land. While the original plot would have Jun Yueyue failing the test due to her vanity and jealousy, she has no interest in the family fortune or the novel's romantic entanglements. She plans to secure a divorce from Fang Anyu and live independently. However, her growing closeness with Fang Anyu complicates her plans. Fang Anyu, who has never had anyone ask what he wants, begins to rely on Jun Yueyue, and their relationship evolves from a contractual marriage into something more complex, challenging Jun Yueyue's goal of staying out of the main storyline.
