As Orson read the novel penned by his ex-girlfriend, he couldn't help but comment on how poor the story was. However, a foul odor from the kitchen soon caught his attention. Upon investigation, he discovered a gas leak. Already upset over the breakup, Orson's anger intensified at the sight of his disarrayed kitchen. In a fit of rage, he punched the light switch. The resulting explosion killed him instantly, sending Orson to the afterlife.
After a period in limbo, Orson found himself reincarnated in an unfamiliar world. To his dismay, he realized he had been reborn into the very novel written by his ex, complete with its clichés. Adding insult to injury, he was now Neonidas, a useless duke and the fiancé of the story's villainess.
