Su Manqing is a woman from Jingshi who, after a series of provocations and misunderstandings fueled by her stepmother Fang Peilan and stepsister Su Manxue, forces a divorce from her husband, Battalion Commander Huo Yuanzheng. Huo Yuanzheng, a disciplined military officer, files for the divorce and returns to his unit on a remote southern island, leaving Su Manqing behind. Shortly after his departure, Su Manqing begins suffering from recurring nightmares that depict a horrific future. In these visions, she is reported and sent down to the countryside due to her family background, where she faces harassment, forced marriage, and imprisonment. The nightmares reveal that Su Manxue is actually the illegitimate daughter of her father and that Fang Peilan poisoned her biological mother. In the dream, Su Manqing kills an attacker in self-defense, is sentenced to life imprisonment, and is later visited by a triumphant Su Manxue. Driven to madness, Su Manqing kills Su Manxue and is subsequently shot by guards. Huo Yuanzheng, upon discovering her body, goes into a rage, exacts brutal revenge on her father and stepmother, and is eventually imprisoned for murder, dying while clutching her photograph.

Terrified by these visions, Su Manqing rushes to the southern island to find Huo Yuanzheng, hoping to prevent the impending turmoil that is set to begin in less than a week. She is initially rebuffed at the military unit, as Huo Yuanzheng refuses to see her and dismisses her claim of pregnancy as a lie. However, after waiting in a heavy rainstorm, Huo Yuanzheng finds her and drags her to the guesthouse. Despite his anger and insistence that she return to Jingshi, Su Manqing clings to him, desperate to stay. During this encounter, Huo Yuanzheng remains unmoved by her physical advances, deepening her confusion about whether the dream was real or merely a product of her anxiety. That night, Su Manqing discovers a crimson mole on her wrist that was not there before. When she touches it, she is transported to a mysterious spatial dimension containing fertile farmland, livestock, and a house stocked with supplies from the future.

Within this space, Su Manqing finds a book containing the history of the nation up to the year 2030. She verifies the events from her nightmare, confirming that the turmoil is real and that her previous life would have ended in tragedy. Armed with this knowledge and the resources of her spatial ability, she resolves to change her fate. The next morning, she is summoned by Political Commissar Zhao Beishan, who reveals that Huo Yuanzheng had actually submitted an application for her to accompany him to the military unit a month prior, contradicting his claim that he wanted a divorce. Realizing the misunderstanding, Su Manqing decides to stay and rebuild her life within the military compound.

Su Manqing is assigned a modest courtyard in the family quarters, located next to the residence of Jiang Qiuyue, a soloist in the cultural troupe whom Su Manxue had previously claimed had written love letters to Huo Yuanzheng. Su Manqing remains indifferent to the gossip and provocation from Wang Xingmei, a fellow military wife, choosing instead to integrate herself into the community. She befriends Wang Xingmei by using items from her spatial dimension, such as mung bean cakes, to win her over. As she settles in, Su Manqing uses her knowledge of future events to navigate the social dynamics of the base. She contacts her friend Miao Qian in Jingshi to sell her factory job and to investigate the true parentage of Su Manxue, setting the stage for her to confront her family and alter the course of her destiny while staying close to Huo Yuanzheng.
