Ruan Tinghe, a skilled forensic artist from the 21st century, dies after assisting police with a murder portrait and is transported to a rural village in 1970s China. She inhabits the body of a woman who was drugged and impregnated by a mysterious man four years prior. Mistaken for the village chief’s son, Zhao Xiaogang, Ruan Tinghe recognizes he is not her child’s father due to physical discrepancies. She feigns engagement to buy time, escapes to the city, and raises triplets—Dabao, Erbao, and Sanbao—alone by working as a portrait artist. Her youngest daughter, Sanbao, suffers from a chronic illness requiring expensive treatment in a major city.

Three years later, Ruan Tinghe is recruited by military intelligence to assist an undercover agent, Shen Yan, codenamed Tiger, in infiltrating the Red Gang. Posing as a woman in a brothel, she gathers critical information about the gang’s hideout and weapons depots. Shen Yan, who recognizes her as the woman who abandoned him after their one-night stand four years ago, is initially hostile but cooperates for the mission. Their interaction is complicated by an eavesdropping gang member, Wild Boar, who suspects their ruse. Ruan Tinghe successfully transmits the intelligence, leading to a military raid that destroys the Red Gang’s operations. She returns to her children, unaware that Shen Yan is investigating her past.

Ruan Tinghe discovers a spatial dimension linked to her modern apartment, containing food, medicine, and household items from the 21st century. This space becomes crucial for her survival and for treating Sanbao. Meanwhile, her adoptive parents, Ruan Dashan and Li Qiumei, attempt to kidnap her children to force her back into a marriage with Zhao Xiaogang. Ruan Tinghe defends her family, injuring them and leading to their arrest. Shen Yan, now recovered from his undercover injuries, encounters the children and learns of her situation. He reveals that Zhao Xiaogang is alive and that he has been tracking human traffickers connected to his missing sister, Shen Nian.

Shen Yan asks Ruan Tinghe to reconstruct a portrait of his missing sister from a damaged photograph. While working in her space, she notices the reconstructed boy in the photo resembles Dabao, sparking suspicions about the children’s true parentage. She completes the portrait and attempts to deliver it, but learns Shen Yan has already left for Su City. Believing she has been deceived, she sells items from her space to fund a move to Shanghai, where Sanbao can receive medical care. During her journey, she is targeted by human traffickers but is rescued by Shen Yan, who is leading a task force to dismantle the trafficking ring.

In Shanghai, Ruan Tinghe meets Grandma Qin and her grandson Yin Quan, a hospital director. Yin Quan is revealed to be a world-class medical expert capable of treating Sanbao. Ruan Tinghe moves into the Qin family compound, gaining both medical support and a social network. Shen Yan continues his investigation into the traffickers, suspecting they are linked to his sister’s disappearance. The story concludes with Ruan Tinghe establishing a new life in Shanghai, while Shen Yan’s presence looms as he seeks to uncover the truth about the past and potentially reconnect with her and her children.
