Jiang Mianmian is a wealthy young woman with a deep affection for fictional male supporting characters who consistently suffer tragic endings. Frustrated by their lonely fates in the stories she reads, she is suddenly bound by the Male Supporting Role System, which offers her the chance to travel into various worlds to win the hearts of these doomed characters and rewrite their destinies. She eagerly accepts, learning that time in her original world pauses during her missions. Her first target is Zhou Nanye, a handsome but stuttering boy from a school-life romance novel. In the original story, Zhou Nanye is a kind-hearted orphan who silently supports the heroine, only to be abandoned by his wealthy biological family and live a lonely, loveless life. Jiang Mianmian is determined to change this outcome.
Jiang Mianmian transmigrates into the body of the original novel’s female antagonist, a wealthy school bully with a rebellious appearance and a history of obsessive love for the male lead, Ming Yao. The original character had dyed her hair yellow and worn heavy makeup to match Ming Yao’s aesthetic, but Jiang Mianmian finds this look distasteful. Upon arriving in the classroom, she witnesses Zhou Nanye being ridiculed by classmates for his stutter. The heroine, Zhou Ling’er, attempts to defend him but inadvertently draws more attention to his condition, using his vulnerability to enhance her own image as a compassionate friend. Jiang Mianmian intervenes, silencing the bullies with her authority and standing by Zhou Nanye’s side. This act of kindness leaves a profound impression on the boy, who has experienced little genuine warmth in his life.
As Jiang Mianmian and Zhou Nanye become desk mates, she begins to nurture their relationship with patience and care. She discards her delinquent image, restoring her natural beauty and attracting the attention of her peers. Ming Yao, initially annoyed by her indifference, becomes curious when he sees her transformed appearance and her close bond with Zhou Nanye. He misinterprets her actions as a manipulative tactic to make him jealous, refusing to believe she has genuinely moved on. Meanwhile, Zhou Ling’er views Jiang Mianmian as a rival and continues to use Zhou Nanye for her own social gain, showing little genuine concern for his well-being.
Jiang Mianmian takes Zhou Nanye to a specialist to address his stutter, which stems from severe psychological trauma inflicted during his years of kidnapping and abuse. Under hypnosis, Zhou Nanye relives his childhood horrors, including imprisonment and physical punishment by the couple who bought him. Despite the pain, Jiang Mianmian’s presence provides him with comfort and strength. He begins to develop deep feelings for her, viewing her as a beacon of light in his dark past. Jiang Mianmian remains focused on her mission, determined to help him heal and ensure he finds happiness. As their bond strengthens, the original plot’s trajectory shifts significantly, with Ming Yao’s arrogance blinding him to the reality that Jiang Mianmian is no longer interested in him.
