Wen Xian is a quiet, ordinary woman who retreats to a remote southern town called Spring City to escape her mundane and sorrowful past. Seeking solitude, she stays at a local inn while a group of young travelers, led by the muscular Chen Lian and the predatory Shouzi, occupy the neighboring youth hostel. Despite her desire for isolation, Wen Xian is harassed by Shouzi and his group, though Chen Lian occasionally intervenes with cold indifference. Seeking refuge in nature, Wen Xian hikes into the nearby mountains to pick mushrooms. She discovers a colossal, ancient tree at the summit that radiates a domineering aura. As she rests in its shadow, the tree reveals its true nature as a carnivorous monster. Vines burst from its trunk, dragging Wen Xian into a dark cavity where she is impaled by glowing tubes that drain her blood and flesh. In her final moments of agony, she bites through a vital green crystal bead suspended within the monster, causing the tree to wither and collapse. She dies, but her body is resurrected by the crystal’s energy, granting her a new, enhanced physique and the ability to command plant life.

Wen Xian awakens to find the mountain transformed. The giant tree is gone, replaced by a pile of bones, and the surrounding world has undergone a catastrophic mutation. Plants have grown to monstrous sizes, and animals have become aggressive giants. She discovers she possesses a Wood Ability, allowing her to transform parts of her body into tree shields and branches, and can mentally command plants to move or clear paths. She also finds a storage space, effectively the interior of the destroyed tree, where she can store and retrieve items at will. Upon returning to the town, she finds it overrun by mutated flora and fauna. The social order has collapsed, and survivors are struggling to stay alive. She encounters a giant cat seeking help for an injury, which she cannot treat, and flees back to the inn, only to find it occupied by Chen Lian’s group, who have established a harsh hierarchy based on strength.

Chen Lian and Shouzi reveal that three days have passed since Wen Xian disappeared. They explain that many survivors who were attacked by mutated organisms have awakened abilities, such as super strength or speed. Shouzi, who survived with severe injuries, harbors malicious intentions toward Wen Xian, while Chen Lian remains suspicious of her. Wen Xian learns that the mutation is a global event, with hundreds of millions dead. The government has established safe zones in major cities, but communication is limited. Wen Xian decides to leave the inn, rejecting Shouzi’s coercive protection. She joins a group led by Xiang Yuyang, a charismatic survivor with Speed and Perception abilities, who recognizes Wen Xian’s immense power potential. Xiang Yuyang attempts to recruit her to his base at Sifang Square, but Wen Xian remains focused on finding her own path.

At the square, Wen Xian learns of the grim reality of the new world: women are treated as commodities, and dissent is punished by being fed to a mutated Tibetan Mastiff named Bawang. Disgusted by the decay of human morality, Wen Xian refuses to submit. She communicates with a sentient vine that guides her, revealing that her connection to the plant world is deeper than she realized. Meanwhile, Chen Lian’s group suffers an attack; Shouzi is severely maimed by mutated plants after Wen Xian deliberately separated from him to test her abilities. Xiang Yuyang’s team rescues Wen Xian and prepares to take over the inn, leading to a confrontation between the two factions. The story ends with Wen Xian caught between the aggressive survivalists of the inn and the authoritarian control of the square, forced to navigate a world where power dictates worth and humanity is on the brink of extinction.
