Oh No! The Female Lead of the Angst Novel Fell for Me

Jiang Zhengzheng is a second-year university student who, after a casual end-of-semester dinner with her roommates, takes a late-night taxi to her new, dilapidated apartment in the suburbs. Seeking to save money, she had rented a cheap room in an old residential building. Upon arriving at the fifth floor, she witnesses a violent kidnapping attempt in the hallway where a bearded man and an accomplice are attacking a young woman. Jiang Zhengzheng attempts to call the police and record evidence, but she is discovered by the attackers and a third conspirator, the landlord. Despite her desperate attempts to bluff her way out by claiming selective blindness, the three men corner her. As she flees down the stairs, the landlord stabs her in the chest with a dagger. Bleeding and betrayed, she curses her murderers before losing consciousness and dying.

Jiang Zhengzheng awakens in a damp, dim cave, discovering her body has become transparent and ghostly. A mysterious text on the wall informs her that she has entered the world of a novel titled "The Demon Cold Master’s Palm Treasure: Don’t Run Away, My Darling Wife." She is given a mission: help the novel’s female lead, Ji Tingchan, achieve a happy ending within three years, or remain a ghost forever. Upon completion, she will be revived in the real world and granted one wish. The text reveals that one year in the novel world equals only one week in reality. Shortly after, she hears the female lead being bullied by a group of wealthy girls led by Xia Qian. Jiang Zhengzheng floats up to intervene, using her ghostly abilities to throw stones and physically harass the bullies, causing chaos that allows Ji Tingchan to escape.

Ji Tingchan, a tall, pale, and aloof girl known as the "white moonlight" of the story, is surprised to find that Jiang Zhengzheng can see her. While Jiang Zhengzheng is ecstatic to meet her novel counterpart, Ji Tingchan remains cold and suspicious, wondering why a ghost would help her. At Ji Tingchan’s home, the female lead faces daily abuse from her stepmother, Xu Lifang, and stepsiblings, Ji Yaolong and Ji Mingren. Jiang Zhengzheng, witnessing the cruelty, uses her powers to cause accidents, such as breaking a chandelier and making Ji Mingren sit on a fork, to punish the abusers. Despite the violence, Ji Tingchan remains eerily calm, revealing a darker side to her personality. She confides in Jiang Zhengzheng, calling her "sister," and hints at her own plans for revenge. Jiang Zhengzheng, unaware of Ji Tingchan’s true nature, believes she is helping a victim find happiness. However, Ji Tingchan is secretly plotting to poison her entire family, a plan she temporarily sets aside due to Jiang Zhengzheng’s interference.

After a night of wandering, Jiang Zhengzheng gets lost and encounters a girl named Lin Xin, who can also see her. Lin Xin, a kind and observant student, offers Jiang Zhengzheng shelter during a heavy rainstorm. Jiang Zhengzheng stays with Lin Xin’s family for a few days, experiencing the warmth and love she never had, which deepens her resolve to help Ji Tingchan achieve a happy ending. Meanwhile, Ji Tingchan deals with the aftermath of the accidents Jiang Zhengzheng caused, including the hospitalization of her stepsiblings. She also encounters Fu Mingkai, the novel’s male lead, who is intrigued by her cold demeanor. Jiang Zhengzheng, returning to Ji Tingchan, tries to orchestrate romantic moments between them, but her clumsy interference only annoys Ji Tingchan, who is already manipulating the situation to her advantage. The story follows Jiang Zhengzheng’s efforts to guide the tragic female lead toward happiness, unaware that Ji Tingchan may have her own sinister agenda.
