Mistakenly Targeting the Wrong Character in a Restricted Novel

Jiang Yin is a young woman suffering from a rare genetic disorder that makes her skin as fragile as butterfly wings. After dying, she transmigrates into a restricted fantasy novel known as the Eastern Profound Continent. In the original storyline, the male and female leads defeat demonic beasts and seal them away, achieving a happy ending. However, the plot has gone awry because the female lead fell in love with a male supporting character instead of the male lead, causing the sealing ritual to fail and demons to run rampant. The Heavenly Dao resets the timeline and recruits Jiang Yin to fix the story. A system cures her illness in exchange for her completing a mission: she must win over the male supporting character, Xie Huaian, before the female lead does, thereby preventing the abnormal romantic deviation.

Jiang Yin arrives in the mortal world with a Demon-Seeking Compass and a protective spell that can save her life three times. Her goal is to find Xie Huaian, who is currently trapped in a beast pit with a broken leg and a demonic curse that has wiped out his spiritual energy. The original plot dictates that the female lead, Zhu Nian, will rescue him there and make him fall in love with her at first sight. Jiang Yin reaches the pit first and climbs down to rescue him. However, the man in the pit is not Xie Huaian but Chu Nanci, a powerful nine-tailed fox demon and the novel’s ultimate villain. Chu Nanci has lost his memory and is pretending to be the injured cultivator. When Jiang Yin touches him to find a betrothal token, she triggers a strange physical reaction in him, causing his killing intent to dissipate and replaced by curiosity and amusement.

Chu Nanci decides to keep Jiang Yin close for his own entertainment rather than revealing his true identity. He allows her to believe he is Xie Huaian, even feigning memory recovery of their engagement after she accidentally knocks him unconscious. They are rescued from the pit by a local mother, Liu Niang, and her son, Xue Zhuang’er, a boy with immense strength who is bullied for being different. Jiang Yin attempts to repay the family by offering money and trying to recommend Xue Zhuang’er to the Xuantian Sect for cultivation. Liu Niang reacts with hostility, throwing the money back and driving them away, revealing a deep-seated fear of cultivators that Jiang Yin does not initially understand.

Despite the rejection, Jiang Yin remains kind and insightful, recognizing that Liu Niang’s harshness stems from a desire to protect her son and maintain dignity. She devises a plan to prove their legitimacy by hunting a local demon that has been terrorizing the village. To do this, she hires a local actor and creates a costume based on the demon’s description. Meanwhile, Chu Nanci continues to toy with Jiang Yin, enjoying her innocence and the novel experiences she brings him. He hides his true nature while subtly guiding events, aware that the real threat to Jiang Yin is far greater than the minor demon she intends to fight. The story follows their journey as they navigate the dangers of the Eastern Profound Continent, with Jiang Yin striving to complete her mission while Chu Nanci remains an unpredictable variable whose true intentions are concealed beneath a gentle facade.
